Corp000085 Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 7:30pm Versus, CBC Thomas Vanek takes the ice for the YoungStars, played 4 on 4. Immediately following is the skills competition. Hopefully Briere will win and we'll see a spinnaroni from campbell!
Mr.Christopher Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 I am looking forward to both events tonight. The YoungStars will be exciting to watch.
Bmwolf21 Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 Does anyone know who will be competing in which events?

The shooter for the West will be Teemu Selanne against Miller. Should be a great event. In another shootout, Miller faces Sakic, Ryan Smyth, Brian Rolston, and Joe Thorton.
Corp000085 Posted January 24, 2007 Author Report Posted January 24, 2007 the "rail cam" sucks. the angle is bad and the track and camera cause quite a distraction from the traditional camera angle. TERRIBLE!!!! vanek with an assist

Am I dreaming, or didn't the league try having each team do their own skills competition, and the top 3 or 5 in each event were supposed to go to the All-Star game for the league-wide competition? I thought maybe early 90s they tried that... the "rail cam" sucks. the angle is bad and the track and camera cause quite a distraction from the traditional camera angle. TERRIBLE!!!! vanek with an assist Yes, the rail cam is not worth all the hype, IMO.
Crestwood Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 The rail cam is terrible. And so is Versus' insistence on switching between three camera angles during the same sequence. And so is the broadcast camera angle in American Airlines Arena. I guess I'm just full of negativity tonight. :)
BetweenThePipes00 Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 This is horrible ... the place is a morgue ... I'm sure all their corporate big wigs to whom they gave free tickets are still enjoying dinner down the street ... they should have given away the tickets to kids if they want to build the game.
Sabretooth73 Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 this is GOD AWFUL to watch.... if the NHL is trying to promote their game and gain new viewers, this kind of BS aint gonna do it players standing around, allowing any and everything to get by them.... this is a disgrace also, seems as if the arena is half full, no crwod noise, even the announcers seem like they could care less, players score and the tone in their voice doesnt change a bit...WDF!
ExiledInIllinois Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 THe whole idea of a mid-season NHL All-Star game is absurd... Just imagine if someone gets hurt... Turns an ankle or what not? How many stars does BFLO have in it... The Sabres Cup run could be seriously tested if say Miller breaks his leg or something... Just let them skate, let everything go by you and the highest score win... Isn't it basically a non-checking game (the All-Star)? JUst imagine how the Sabres would roll in this kind of environment!
hopeleslyobvious Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Parise led the game in scoring, not a surprise since he was getting triple shifted.

They don't skate hard enough in the games to worry about injuries...hence they are the two most boring sporting events on TV! I realize I am probably in a very small minority, but I cannot watch this whole All-Star week mess!
carpandean Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Did the skills comp start yet? My girlfriend is watching Idol and I don't get the remote back until she goes to bed at 9:00.
Crestwood Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Hasn't started yet, but it should be very soon, probably a little before 9.
Bmwolf21 Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Thanks, Versus for that reminder of the 1999 stolen Stanley Cup... :censored:
phSabres84 Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Thanks, Versus for that reminder of the 1999 stolen Stanley Cup... :censored: This here ought to tighten your colon... Bettman opens old wounds!!!
imnotreallyscott Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 the "rail cam" sucks. the angle is bad and the track and camera cause quite a distraction from the traditional camera angle. TERRIBLE!!!! vanek with an assist I like the rail cam. I hope they use it more often. Even if in replays and break-ins. It's fun. Peace.
BetweenThePipes00 Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 for replays the railcam is fine, but it is not fast enough to follow live action and when they switch away from it you have no idea what is going on for a second ... it's just too close to the action to see the whole game. what a joke ... the automatic timer thing for fastest skater is broken, they are using a stopwatch... this league just can't get out of its own way.
Bmwolf21 Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Is it just me, or is the fastest skater competition dragging on way too long? WTF? Is everyone on the All-Star, YoungStar and Dallas Stars rosters competing in this?
hopeleslyobvious Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 what a joke ... the automatic timer thing for fastest skater is broken, they are using a stopwatch... this league just can't get out of its own way. Who cares. This is for fun.
BetweenThePipes00 Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 And now they missed the first shot in the hardest shot event so they could show us guys getting out of the Dodge Nitro, the official transportation for the worst-run All-Star Game in professional sports history! I'll be happy if they remember they pucks for tomorrow's game . ..
carpandean Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Danny, not so good on the shootout. They said that he never got the puck to sit down for him.
BetweenThePipes00 Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Who cares. This is for fun. Yeah except they make such a big deal of "showcasing the game for new fans" and then crap like this happens ... if it was just for diehards like us I would agree, but they continually ignore what their current fans want in favor of these mysterious new fans, and this what they see ...

Eh, we missed Rafalski. So we really didn't miss anything.
