Just a suggestion, but what we're doing isn't pretty either.

I thought Lorentz had a good call on using soft dumps. Get the puck in the zone and use your speed to beat the defense to it, and take the goalie out of the equation by not firing it in.

A few thoughts come to mind.

1. First, they must work harder on the PP. Win the one-on-one battles and skate harder to gain possession in the zone.

2. SHOOT the damm puck.....this means both the frequency of the shots (1 SOG per PP opportunity is simply not enough) and second, use more quick wrist shots to force the opposition to react. Often simple wrist shots on goal are more effective in getting through because the opposition has less time to get in the shooting lane vs. the big windup slapshots.

3. Consider putting a right-handed shot on the right point and a left-handed shot on the left point. This contradicts the 1-timers, but they seem to prefer perimeter board-passing anyway. In most Buffalo powerplays, there's a tendency for passing to occur along the boards....when the puck goes back to the point, the pointmen have to handle the puck on their backhand. By switching their shooting side, if the Sabres insist on a perimeter game along the boards, then they could at least get some more quick forehand shots off from along the boards vs. the point trying to maintain possession off the backhand.....usually doesn't work out real well and results in more turnovers.

Just my $.02
