Bmwolf21 Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Yeah, yesterday, in the Sidney & A Slew of Sabres Headed to the All-Star Game thread...the writer even posted a follow-up piece (due to the backlash) as well as a counter-point piece by Eklund...(links in the original thread.) But to reiterate my stance - screw him. Sounds like sour grapes that there were no Flyers voted into the starting lineup...
inkman Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 At this point, I find it all a bit comical.
smith Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 yeah, he lost all credibility when he mentioned he's beat-writer with the Cryers. enough said.
X. Benedict Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 his side of the story is on the WGR archive: http://www.wgr550.com/ondemand.php
Bmwolf21 Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 I just listened to it, and his argument is ridiculous at best. Because the league needs to market itself better, the league needs "names" like Jagr, so Sabres shouldn't be starters?

On hockeybuzz he knows that the Buffalo columns get the biggest response so he wanted to make a little name for himself - which he did.
McJeff215 Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 At this point, I find it all a bit comical. Yeah I agree. But Hitch has done great things in.... oh.... wait....
Doohicksie Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 thoughts/comments? No, not really. I could care less what some blogger thinks.
SCSabresFan! Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Rule #1 in sports talk radio. If you need the phone lines to light up, say Michael Jordan was overrated. Rule #1 in bloging. Say something stupid, get many hits on your website. This guy is an ass.
shrader Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 No, not really. I could care less what some blogger thinks. Exactly. Buffalonians really need to stop bitching about every little thing. I'm sure I could create some crappy blog that no one actually reads, take a cheap shot at Buffalo, leading to it being posted on a board like this one.
inkman Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 his side of the story is on the WGR archive: http://www.wgr550.com/ondemand.php He really ducked the entire "Buffalo is a craphole" topic. I don't disagree with his other takes, unfortunately that was not what was reflected in his blog. I don't think he anticipated the voracious response from Buffalonians.

Cue Admiral Akhbar: "It's a trap!!"
wjag Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 I happen to agree with most things stated in this article. First and foremost, so you can put these next comments in the proper perspective from my viewpoint I think ALL, yep every one of 'em, ALL Star games are a waste of time and effort and I don't watch them. And two, I don't think the NHL should send/allow a single player to go/participate to/in the Olympics. Now to the article: 1. I agree that downtown Buffalo is hurting and that many of the streets at night are empty of people, activity and cars. 2. I agree that fan voting should be restricted to a single ballot and should only count as 45 percent of the ballot with professional beat writers and media also getting one vote but counting for 55%. No basis for these number, just a feeling that professionals watching the whole league would make better judgements than homers. 3. I don't think that Brian Campbell and Daniel Briere should be the starters. I agree they have played well enough to make the team, but they are middle of the road in terms of statistics. 4. I disagree on Miller. I think he is deserving and his numbers must be considered based on the style of play in front of him. 5. I agree that the whole Fitzpatrick thing made a fun and useful mockery of the NHL ALL Star Voting. 6. I too would be curious to see the percentage of votes by region. I do not believe that guys from Buffalo alone were responsible for the Sabres representation, but I'm not sure.
