X. Benedict Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 He's a great teammate - he's nurturing - he'll taste your food. http://petteril.multiply.com/video/item/1
nystrip66 Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 Unreal!! At least Pete seems real well liked in the locker room  That was good.
Crestwood Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 Haha great find, X. Peters isn't that bad of an actor. Hmm, maybe he should quit his day job...
rickshaw Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Maybe you guys should get off the guy. The team obviously has a place for him for now so let's leave him alone. The guy tries hard and will do what it takes to stick up for his boys. This team is already soft enough. Until someone who can do all the roles comes along, he's gotta stay on board.
DWarner Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 He even helped Drury into the locker room tonight.

I don't mind the jokes about him sucking, but I do have a problem with those who seriously think he should be off the roster. Enforcers will always be needed, even in the "new NHL." And seriously, what good does a talented 9th wing prospect do for us as a replacement for Peters? That player would be better off getting experience in Rochester instead of riding the bench at the pro level.

Fighters may always be needed in the "new NHL", but only if you have adequate hockey skills to go along with it. Peters doesn't fit this criteria and therefore, will not be with the Sabres(and more than likely no other NHL team) next year or in the future. I had to laugh when he was one of two Sabres back on a 2 on 2 last night. He didn't even attempt to try and turn around and skate backwards.

It wasn't pretty, but at least he stayed with the guy and finished his check by crunching the Hawks player into the corner boards...

But that young player would actually get significant ice time right now since the Sabres are only carrying 12 forwards. Anyway, that was a good video. The entire team did a better acting job than most of the guys espn gets for those Kenny Mayne segments.

He's cheap, well liked by his teammates, very good in his (limited) role and, most importantly, Lindy clearly finds him useful.

Lindy's hands are tied by Darcy on this one. He has no choice but to dress Peters most night. It has nothing to do with "Lindy finding him useful".
Hsoj25 Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 its quite amazing how you can see right into lindy's head to come to that conclusion
nfreeman Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 We've been over this before. Lindy's hands are tied by Darcy on this one. He has no choice but to dress Peters most night. It has nothing to do with "Lindy finding him useful". Leaving aside Hsoj's astute observation about your telepathic powers, the only sense in which Lindy's hands are tied is that we don't have the cap space (which we did last year) to carry an extra forward full time and alternate healthy-scratching that extra forward with Peters. However, it is critical to note that we could have gotten rid of Peters and replaced him with one of the young guns from Rochster (since their contracts are roughly equal), but we chose to keep Peters. In fact, since the contracts aren't guaranteed, we could decide to do so at any time. We haven't done so, and there is a reason for that -- and the reason isn't that Darcy has tied Lindy's hands. The reason is that Lindy sees value in Peters. While I'm confident that Lindy would have preferred to have had the cap space to have kept one of the young guns up as an alternate, I'm also confident that since the only way to keep one of them up is to get rid of Peters, Lindy has chosen to keep Peters.
rickshaw Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 He's a good guy to have around in the regular season. He has done his job when needed and I remember him turning the game around against Detroit with his fight. Last night he drew a penalty, got back on a 2 on 2 and took out his man and narrowly missed scoring his first goal after a nice drop pass by Briere. That shot was just wide. His salary is nothing to the team. Yes it would be nice to keep Stafford up, but another year in the A won't hurt him either. Peters is a good guy and is an NHL player. None of us in here can say the latter so we should keep it shut.
X. Benedict Posted January 11, 2007 Author Report Posted January 11, 2007 I'm quite happy to have Peters on the bench right now. Come playoffs I imagine that Peters will be sitting while Lindy pulls up a stable of Black Aces like Stafford and MacArthur. Those guys are better off seeing 20 AHL minutes a night rather than 6-8 NHL minutes a night on the 4th line.
BetweenThePipes00 Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 I love the fact that this is the only thing we really have to complain/argue about ... i mean, yeah the PP has sucked everyone is still so confident in this team that we have been reduced to bickering about the 21st guy on a 21-man roster, who as recently as a week ago skated one whle shift. Good times, folks ... remember this and look fondly back on it in a couple years when we have real problems to worry about.

How are you sure that hsoj's comment weren't directed at you in regards to..."It is clear that Lindy finds him useful"? :D I love the fact that this is the only thing we really have to complain/argue about ... i mean, yeah the PP has sucked everyone is still so confident in this team that we have been reduced to bickering about the 21st guy on a 21-man roster, who as recently as a week ago skated one whle shift. Maybe the reason this is discussed is because due to Peters this team can't roll 4 lines on a regular basis. You state "as recently as a week ago skated one whole shift". This is exactly the reason why his place on the roster pisses me off so much.
shrader Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 However, it is critical to note that we could have gotten rid of Peters and replaced him with one of the young guns from Rochster (since their contracts are roughly equal) Maybe if you're talking about a guy like Mike Ryan. Guys like Stafford and Paille make right round double the money Peters does (on the NHL level of their 2-way deal anyway).

That's exactly my point ... you are pissed off about something (your words, not mine) that is hurting the team so much that they are in first place overall, with games in hand, on pace to blow the franchise record for points out of the water. I stand by my statement, I love the fact that this is the only thing we really have to complain/argue about. I don't really like him either, but someday we are going to wish this was our biggest problem.
