Stoner Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 It's always hard for me to tell... but did the NHL officially do away with the "fast faceoff" concept put in place a season ago?
BuffalOhio Posted January 2, 2006 Report Posted January 2, 2006 No, it's still in effect. Not sure why you can't tell. Every time they toss a center, it's an indication that it's still in effect. What makes you think it's no longer in effect?
Stoner Posted January 2, 2006 Author Report Posted January 2, 2006 I've counted 25-30 seconds between faceoffs in some games this year. In other games, it's faster. It just doesn't seem as brisk as when it was put in place.
BuffalOhio Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 In USA Hockey (I'm a ref), the visiting team gets 8 seconds after a whistle to decide if they want to make a change. If nobody comes over the boards, the ref's arm goes up, at which point, the home team is able to make a change in response to the visitor's change. If no change is made, the ref's arm goes down, and the linesman blows the whistle indicating 5 seconds to get in position for the puck drop. 25-30 seconds seems a little longer than last year, but they're still hurrying the players and not taking any crap on the centers jostling for position, which takes more time when a guy is tossed, which happens a lot.
