Screamin'Weasel Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 I made this over the last couple days in my spare time. Hope you like it: Please note: YouTube really cuts the quality of both video and sound drastically. If you liked it, I am trying to upload a higher quality version of it to download. I'll edit this post when I have it up somewhere. C&C appreciated. Also, if SDS or a4u2fear10 wants to upload it to the video page, I'd appreciate that.
Stoner Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 Oh my goodness. Fantastic. I've said it before -- the creativity of the people on this board is unbelievable at times. Good job Weasel. I like the change in music and the slide show of pics. Well, if this is just the highlights after 10 games, I can't wait for next June. :) I dunno about tempting the hockey Gods with the you know what though. :)
SabresFanInRochester Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 WOW! Dude's got some serious talent. You want some C&C??? The only critique I could make would be to have you consider getting a job in the industry of graphic arts. WOW!!! Keep it up!
Stoner Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 SabresFan brings up a good point. Are the video makers in the business -- they all seem so professional. Or with the right software, can even a civilian schmuck like me take a stab at this?
SDS Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 SabresFan brings up a good point. Are the video makers in the business -- they all seem so professional. Or with the right software, can even a civilian schmuck like me take a stab at this? you could do it, but you would need at least a fair understanding of consumer electronics. iMovie is stupid easy to learn. Get that new machine and you make movies in a snap. The only tricky part for you would be transferring the video from your TV source to the computer.
Screamin'Weasel Posted October 30, 2006 Author Report Posted October 30, 2006 SabresFan brings up a good point. Are the video makers in the business -- they all seem so professional. Or with the right software, can even a civilian schmuck like me take a stab at this? No, I am not in the business of videography or graphic arts. Just a self-taught hobby. For video editting I use Sony Vegas 6.0a (approx $550.00). For the 3d animations I us Discreet 3ds Max (approx $3500.00). For the music editing I use Creative Labs WavStudio (free with my Audigy 2 software). For video capture I use WM Recorder 10 ($30.00 shareware). Of course, for the less ethical users, most of these can be found on limewire or the like as well as keygens to make them fully fuctional. And I suppose if I can teach myself, anyone can. Also, Windows Movie Maker is a pretty good utility to use for these movies as well.
SDS Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 I need to revamp that section, so that updates are a bit easier. I added the video to "The Spotlight" on the front page. As for CC, although I liked the music - I didn't think it was "opening season" music. It felt much more playoffish to me than October. I would have lightened the mood at this time of year with something upbeat. Other than that it was a bang up job! possible opening songs could be: Creed: Higher Van Halen: Finish What You Started; Right Now U2: Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For LZ: Rock-n-Roll

SW - overall it was very well done. My only 2 CC's would be: I'd probably shorten the amount of time the abominable snot smear is on the screen before the action begins and I'd try to make the closing credits logo the front crest rather than the shoulder patch. I did like the use of the photo montage to transition between the 2 segments, although by the time all the group hugs were done I was starting to think I was watching a bad 70's sitcom. It is obvious you put a lot of time into putting it together. It looked quite professional. Good work.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 Very nice dude............
All Along The Watchtower Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 Very nice job indeed! Thanks for sharing!
Screamin'Weasel Posted October 31, 2006 Author Report Posted October 31, 2006 Actually, I'd either go with "Ode to Joy", which the Sabres have used for pregame montages before or "Vertigo" which the Sabres have opened warmups with for about the last year. First, "Vertigo" would have been an excellent choice. Wish I had thought of that. Also, SDS was right in that the music was a bit of a playoff feel. Next, I also uploaded it to putfile.com, which has a max file size of 25mb. I resized it and it actually has much better sound and video quality on this one if you scroll down the page a little bit and change the "view size" to "original." Lastly, as to "Ode to Joy," I used that on a playoff highlight reel I made for the Ottawa series which can also be found on putfile.com, again, choose "original" from the "view size" drop-down. All my uploaded films can be found on my putfile homepage. They range from the very first video I ever made (not very good) to this most recent one. Thanks all for the feedback: keep it coming.
ThePolishSabre Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 ^^^ DUDE :worthy: That Max nation one and the others.... simply amazing!
Eleven Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 Weasel, that was awesome. Right up there with the Crusho Cup. Kickass!
Corp000085 Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 you could also throw in some "jump around" by house of pain... they played that at the HSBC after every victory last year.
will Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 as someone who has no way of seeing any games on television, these movies keep me going throughout the season...more so than the espn highlights that go by in 12 seconds (if at all). loved finally seeing the coast-to-coaster that max pulled vs. the phlyers. keep 'em coming. anyone want to do game by game highlight reels, say...2-3 minutes each? :w00t: just kidding. or not.

Click on the "video" link at the top of the page the day after any game for highlights by the game. If you missed one, when you open the player, there is a drop-down at the top to go to past dates.
will Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 well that's no fun. ;) i kid. thanks for the tip.
niagara66 Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 Terrific stuff. One suggestion that might work...I saw somewhere on a thread about the "Miller Twirl". Apparently, Miller has a superstition that, not only is he the last to leave the ice every time but, just before stepping off the ice, he does a little twirl. The thread I saw had home video of him doing it twice. Might be a cool thing for a video ending or transition. Keep 'em coming Screamin'
Sabresince70 Posted November 1, 2006 Report Posted November 1, 2006 Looks great - thanks for sharing!
That Aud Smell Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 maybe someone hit this point already -- but you know what i appreciate specifically? the choice of classical choir music. nothing gets the goose bumps going like a good choir belting out the latin. but you know what? most producers think there's maybe 2 or 3 such songs that can be used for such montages -- this particular piece reached beyond the cliche' on that level, and a lot of others. great piece of work. loads of talent - on both the team and the producer.
