PromoTheRobot Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 This is one of the greatest events I ever been a part of. $300 gets you into a one-day tourney played on HSBC ice. 8am - Start with practice with members of Sabres Alumni at Sabreland 11am - Drive to HSBC to eat lunch and hold player draft. 8 teams have one Sabres alumni member as captain. 12noon - Tournament starts. Games are 20mins run time each. Free beer in the locker rooms courtesy of Labatt's 5pm - Tourney winner is crowned. Time to clean up. 6pm - Cocktails and dinner in a club level suite 7:30pm - Watch the Sabres play. Doesn't that sound like a dream day? I got to play goalie about 4 years ago. (Danny Gare scored on me on a breakaway...fyi: he gives no quarter no matter if it's a freindly game or not!) What a feeling to stand in the same crease that Hasek stood in, and to stand on NHL ice. Larry Playfair used to organize these tourneys but as far as I know, there hasn't been one scheduled since. Man, I wish they would hold one of these again. PTR
DR HOLLIDAY Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 Sounds kool man...............
Orange Seats Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 Sounds like it might be an insurance nightmare, maybe that's why they had to end it? Or did you have to sign your life away before your first practice? Sounds like an awesome experience though.
Eleven Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 Who's dressed up as Derian Hatcher in that photo? But seriously, that is one incredibly good use of $300. Glad to hear that you got that awesome experience, and I hope for you that they do it again.
