Allan in MD Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 The guy, at this point, is a poster boy for turning ones game around. His intensity, in all phases, is incredible. Tonights game was a perfect example. Thank Lindy for sending him a good, hard message; and give the guy credit for getting it.
Alaska Darin Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 Can we bag this please? This guy didn't suck last season. In fact, he was quite good. He was tied for second on the team in goals with 25 and was sixth with 48 points. He struggled in the playoffs and at times in the regular season with consistant effort, which isn't abnormal for young guys who've had it easy most of their careers. If he's turning his game around, it didn't have too far to go.

JujuFish Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 Vanek has 5 goals and 7 assists. Although he hit the 7 assist mark in his 8th game last year as well, he didn't get 5 goals until December 8th, his 29th game.
Allan in MD Posted October 22, 2006 Author Report Posted October 22, 2006 It not about his scoring. He has always been a scorer. It's the intensity in all other aspects of his game. Give him credit for 'buying in." A lot don't do it.
Larry Playfair Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 he was a rook last year, just out of college where he only had to play one way and could get by on pure talent. Plus he probably ran out of gas toward the end last year. He is flying this year!
gregkash Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 No he didn't suck last year. But there's no denying that he's a more complete player this year. I dare you to deny that.
topshelfcookies Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 Double Dare you. I will never get sick of talking about the strides that a young player makes, whether it be season to season or month to month. I think that this is a completely legit topic, becaus Vanek has the chance to become an elite offensive player that the Sabres haven't had since what? Patty? The fact that Vanek was so heralded, but showed signs late last season of turning into the next Miro Satan, rather than the next Forsberg was a bit disconcerting. To see him skating hard, drawing penalties, dishing the puck, playing responsibly in his own end, all while lighting the lamp at a quicker rate than last seaon is absolutely newsworthy. I think Briere and Vanek were two of the biggest "question marks" coming into the season. Briere for getting handed such a huge contract, yet losing his linemate, and Vanek, for how he responded to getting benched in the playoffs. Besides...what the hell else is there to talk about with this team?!? haha
SDS Posted October 22, 2006 Report Posted October 22, 2006 Besides...what the hell else is there to talk about with this team?!? haha Talking about the "latest win" is getting old... ;)
Allan in MD Posted October 23, 2006 Author Report Posted October 23, 2006 Talking about the "latest win" is getting old... ;) Would you prefer talking about the latest loss?
Taro T Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Would you prefer talking about the latest loss? Scott runs another board where you can get your fill of that. :(
SDS Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Would you prefer talking about the latest loss? I feel much more comfortable talking about that topic. Experience I guess...
