SDS Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 "Match Game -- The Buffalo Sabres and Vancouver Canucks both entered the NHL in 1970 as part of the second expansion, and have enjoyed matching success on opening night. After Buffalo's 3-2 win in Carolina and Vancouver's 3-1 victory in Detroit, the Sabres and Canucks have matching season-opening records of 20-13-3. The Canucks have scored a little more (123 to 120); the Sabres have played slightly better defense (104 goals allowed to 112)."
rickshaw Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 And if you look further into my #1 and 2 teams (Buffalo number 1) you will see that their overall head to head record against each other is something like 1 win apart. I believe we are up 1 win all time head to head.
All Along The Watchtower Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 And in that expansion, BOTH Buffalo and Vancouver were placed in the Eastern Division, with Chicago moving to the West. More useless trivia...
FogBat Posted October 10, 2006 Report Posted October 10, 2006 Yeah, but that was back in the days when divisions and conferences were named for hockey heroes of yesteryear. Nowadays, it's strictly geographical. (Funny how we have a Western Conference team from Ohio -- which is in the Eastern Time Zone.)

Nowadays, it's strictly geographical. (Funny how we have a Western Conference team from Ohio -- which is in the Eastern Time Zone.) What hockey hero was named East and was his brother named West? The league didn't start naming div's and conf's after league builders until 1974-'75.
