inkman Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 I really like Max as a player, but for a guy who can skate like the wind he sure does take a lot of lazy "I don't feel like skating" penalties. Before I get ambushed. I know they are on a 5 game win streak but that doesn't mean I can't call out Max for being lazy.
jp... Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 I would agree...Max does take a few more penalties than we'd like to see...most of those penalties are lazy...he will loose the puck and instead of using his speed, he takes the easy way out by using his stick... That being said, I wouldn't classify him in general as being a 'lazy' player... I hope this new 'playmaker' label inspires him to be more of a leader on this team... And hey, there's nothing wrong with being negative...just ask me about Vanek
Tarrytown Posted December 2, 2005 Report Posted December 2, 2005 and in this streak...has this been a problem of his? hum...maybe we can say that about Kalinin these days...but Max? Maybe I am too caught up in the fact that he is playing like a "playmaker" and not an individual this season. Just my observation. And I think that our team that seemed so lazy in years past is one of the teams that has really flourished under the new rules. Even our buddy Timmy C.
inkman Posted December 2, 2005 Author Report Posted December 2, 2005 Agreed, so lets call them really dumb.
inkman Posted December 5, 2005 Author Report Posted December 5, 2005 Another game, another win, another bad Max penalty. If this continues he is going to find his way to the bench when Briere returns.

What you say for Max can go for the entire team. When this team gets lazy and doesn't want to skate it hurts them. There were points during last nights game were it looked like the ice was tilted the Sabres way. It was like they were playing half court. I was just wondering this? Who sits when Briere comes back?
DoctorDeadly Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 I was just wondering this? Who sits when Briere comes back? WHO sits when Briere comes back, my feeling Vanek. He looks like Satan more and more each day. But he doesn't hit, score and you don't see him give 100%. Just my opinion.
Hank Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 I would think that when Briere comes back that Thorburn will go back to the roc

deluca67 Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 Did you happen to notice when this thread was started? MY bad  I thought it was strange at the time. Anyway. I would rather see Greir sit when Briere comes back. He was real bad on the Av's first goal. I know he scored on a nice play by Hecht. But those palys are too few and too far between for me.
deluca67 Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 I would think that when Briere comes back that Thorburn will go back to the roc I hope you're wrong. I would rather see Peters sent down. Thornburn seems to offer more as a more rounded player then Peters. Peters is a waste of a roster spot. He should just continue with the juice and join pro wrestling.

(the official "I hate Mike Grier" message board) He's been playing well lately and really taking the body.
Guest Guest Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 Mike Grier has been one of the best Sabres this entire season, so what if doesn't have many goals, he hits, forechecks and does the little things that wins you games!!!!! Grier is definitely a hard working player, if anybody should go down to Rochester when Briere returns, it should be Thorburn.
deluca67 Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 Mike Grier is one of the best? 27 games 3 goals? 3 assists? 6 points? -8 +/-? 6 PIM's? Don't physical players usally have more? All of this for $1.3 million a year? Dump Grier. Play Thornburn and save $700,000 and you end up with a better hockey player in the end.

I wouldn't mind seeing more Thorburn though.
Saber61 Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 I would think that when Briere comes back that Thorburn will go back to the roc agreed... why bench an NHLer when you can send an AHLer back to the Amerks and give them some re-inforcements... i understand the purpose for benching players but getting rid of vanek or afinogenov could be deadly... vaneks had a 1/4 of a season under his belt... if you bench him now it will sour his outlook on this team for the rest of his career here... which won't be long because he like many others won't want to be here anymore.
deluca67 Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 It's hard to disagree but he's not as bad as you make him out. I wouldn't mind seeing more Thorburn though. You are right. He's not "that bad". What it comes down to for me is that when this team is ready to be good. I mean Cup contender good. Thornburn would contribute more to that success then Grier. I'm going to guess that Grier, at $1.3 million, won't be here beyond this season with such limited productivity. You can get alot of guys cheaper to go out and bang bodies. The difference and the reason you pay Grier the $1.3 is that he should be able to score at the NHL level. Is what Grier has given that much more then what a Thornburn or even Peters could give you over the first 27 games? The Sabres have to keep an eye on the ROI (Return On Investment). I don't think you get $1.3 million worth of hockey from Mike Grier.
Guest Guest Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 6 PIM's? Don't physical players usally have more? You want him to have more penalities????

Peters is a waste of a roster spot. He should just continue with the juice and join pro wrestling. I have been preaching this all season long. You have enough willingness to drop the gloves with Gaustad, Mair & Thorburn(if you keep him instead of Peters). There is no longer a place in the NHL for a player who can do nothing but "goon" it up. Peters is stealing money, which is why he happily is sitting out game in, game out without hearing a peep from him. The only downside is Thorburn could probably use another year in Rochester where he would get a ton of ice time being on one of the top two lines versus being up here and getting 5-10 minutes a game in addition to sitting out some of them..

If the sabres are to be a cup contender, do you think it would be wise to replace a key veteran who has NHL playoff experience (Grier) with a fresh rookie from the minors(thorburn)???? Now I'm not trying to knock thorburn, he looks like he will be an exciting player, but I just don't see him replcing Grier. Thats just me.

I coul see Grier and Gaustad swapping places. figuring out who will go back to Rochester is going to be tough, Roy, Pominville, and Thorburn have all played well!!!!

deluca67 Posted December 5, 2005 Report Posted December 5, 2005 You want him to have more penalities???? Don't they just happen naturaly when you're a physical player. 3 minors in 25+ games tells me he's not so physical.
