GGM Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 I thought they were going to put us way up there and ruin our whole season. Linky
Bmwolf21 Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 OLN/Versus has a poll on their NHL page asking who will win this year's Stanley Cup - and the Sabres are not an option. The only thing you can do is vote "Other"...

The only thing you can do is vote "Other"... Hell, Ottawa isn't even an option on that poll. To Versus, good hockey = big city.

X. Benedict Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 Wow...what a slap in the face Not really. They need to try to generate Buzz from big American cities. Notice no Canadian teams and no Detroit or Buffalo - markets that are already hockey markets.
X. Benedict Posted September 26, 2006 Report Posted September 26, 2006 Just noticed this line in the ESPN Hockey preview about Ottawa's defense: "Throw in Norris Trophy hopeful Wade Redden, Chris Phillips and Andrej Meszaros, who led all rookies with a plus-34, and this is as good a defense as there is the conference, maybe the NHL. Murray will want to shore up a penalty-killing unit that was curiously 18th overall." I just don't buy it.

I agree...I read most of these previews the same: "The teams we liked last year will be good, whether or not their offseason moves improved the team or not. The teams that surprised us last year will take a step back, whether or not their offseason moves improved the team or not." Essentially, they're using a modified version of last year's preview and fudging it with a lot of "just because"s.

Eleven Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 You expect more from Burnside? Frankly, a grammatically correct column from Burnside is a surprise. Well-thought and well-researched? No, I leave that to folks who write for sites that actually cover hockey.
Seannie34 Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 Buccigross put us at #2 in his east coast preview, second to the Lightning.... sorry I didnt realize there was already a thread on this
