inkman Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 My computer at work doesn't have flash and the IT guys won't let us add progams so, who the heck is the article on the front of TSR about? Thanks ahead of time.
inkman Posted September 20, 2006 Author Report Posted September 20, 2006 Ahh...the skating tomato. Thanks. :D
X. Benedict Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 Giving Soupy the "A," suprised me. I like the choice. I think it is Lindy's way of telling him that he has to raise his game on all levels and that he is counting on him to display that type of leadership that says there are no nights off for anybody. Congrats Soup. Now find us some more Umbergers :D
VanekDrury Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 Interesting choice, but I'm all for it!
hopeleslyobvious Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 Very interesting choice. I figured Teppo would get the other A. But I think Campbell is a better choice. While Teppo is a vet with a lot of experience, and I'm sure a great leader, he is close to retirement. Campbell on the other hand will probably be here for a while, and based on the fact that Lindy doesn't just give those out, probably a good leader as well.

Campbell is an obvious young leader on the team, his game is up and coming, and now he has an official leadership roll. The next progression is for him to become an all star, and hopefully the captain of our defense...

I don't have a problem with the choice, but I was actually expecting Talinder to get the nod. Your comment about Ziro makes me wonder if Lindy chose Soupy because he was the only non-Euro in the top 6. His only other Euro leaders didn't show as much leadership as one might like to have seen.

I don't know if that really counts.
WanderingEye Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 Miro wore an A on and off at least the season before the rotation began, maybe even earlier. Good for Campbell. A few seasons ago I had him pegged as an NHL bust/career AHLer. He played damn well last season and now he's an alternate captain in the AHL.

shrader Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 I didn't see anything in the article that said this was a permanent move. He may have been given the A because someone like Briere wasn't dressed. Still, it's a good sign for Campbell.

MEaning, he wouldn't throw the A away unless it was to an obvious leader. Hopefully soupy will show us his leadership this season

It would be a little embarassing if they ran that story on the club's site and it wasn't permanent.
Kristian Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 Miro wore an A on and off at least the season before the rotation began, maybe even earlier. One could argue that the reason he wore those letters was that Lindy was trying send the message that he expected Satan to step up and act and play like a leader. Either way, it didn't work, thank god he's no longer here.
elcrusho Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 I actually want to buy a Campbell 3rd jersey with the 'A' on it, I think it would look sharp
shrader Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 It would be a little embarassing if they ran that story on the club's site and it wasn't permanent. Not at all. The story shows how much progress he has made, especially over the last year and a half.
Hsoj25 Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 Campbell has made an amazing amount of progress in the past year, at the start of last season many were weary with him as even being in our top 6, and even midway through the season he was viewed by many to be simply a power play specialist - who still couldnt be trusted in crucial times in the playoffs. With the bigger role he had to take due to the injuries I think he has somewhat silenced that contingent (at least for now). So congratulations to him - although I also would have expected it to go to someone like Tallinder.
X. Benedict Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 Soupy is now our Asscaptain!!!
topshelfcookies Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 With the announcement that Soupy is donning the A this season it got me thinking...what are people's thoughts on Drury and Briere still sharing the captaincy? Is it time to simply hand it to one of them? Which one? If it was up to me, I would give it to Drury and make Briere an Asst Capt

shrader Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 i'd keep rotating it, although it briere signs a long term deal in january, i'd give it to him permanently. Wouldn't you essentially be saying goodbye to Drury if you did that? I do think they'll have to choose one of the two after this season, but I doubt they'd potentially alienate one of the two at that point in the season.
Goodfella25 Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 From an outsider's perspective (none of us know whats said in the locker room) I think Drury is more of a leader and should be the lone captain. He leads by example anyway.
