Taro T Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 Another one down. No details given. This is most likely very good news. Link
thesportsbuff Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 Per TSN. Link This thread just made my day. I love you. :)
ReneRobert Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 That's great news! How is it great news if Connolly resigns? now, if he re-signed, that would be good news.... :P Just wanted to be the first for a change.
Claude_Verret Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 Great news. Mostly for TC. I was very worried that he'd never see the ice again.

ReneRobert Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 Touche! Just doing my part to help out the club. :P
nfreeman Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 "After discussions with Tim and our medical staff, we fully expect Tim to be completely healthy," said Sabres GM Darcy Regier. Yeah, baby! Yeah! Timmy is 25 and if he stays healthy the sky is the limit. I'll renew my request for anyone who is video-handy to put together a Connolly highlight reel for dvd or youtube. go Sabres.
syr6987 Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 how much does everyone think it is? cant be much because of his concussion problems
nfreeman Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 how much does everyone think it is? cant be much because of his concussion problems I'll predict $7.75 - $8.25 million total for the 3 years.
JujuFish Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 I'm very happy to see we have Connolly locked up for 3 years. Funny how quickly things have changed with him.
LabattBlue Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 I just did a little jig in my cube. link??
hopeleslyobvious Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 I'm glad to see this for 2 reasons: 1. We have Connolly for 3 years. 2. We wouldn't have signed him if he wasn't getting better!
LabattBlue Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 Hopefully this is a sign that Connolly is completely recovered and will be ready to go at the start of training camp. I also believe this is a signing that may result in Briere being traded away prior to the start of the season. As much of a Briere fan that I am, 5 mil is a big chunk of change and you know that Darcy is not going to be able to lock him up long term after 1/1/07 with 5 mil now being the STARTING POINT in negotiations. DAMN I SUCK AT TYPING!
BetweenThePipes00 Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 The TSN story (same link as above) is now updated to say it is 3 years for $8.7 million ... average of $2.9 million per year, although I am sure it will be less this season ... he must REALLY be healthy ...

I don't know if I've ever done a 180 so quickly on a signing, but on WGR this afternoon Darcy said that Connolly is not even exercising yet, can't guarantee that he will be ready for training camp or even the regular season. If that is still the case 3 months after being injured, why sign him to a 3 year deal worth almost 3 million per year? Seems like a big risk and overpayment for a guy not even recovered from a concussion.
SabresOnTheWarpath Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 because he is the only true number one center we have. briere is a crafty player, but he brings no where near what connolly brings to the table offensively. i'd pay timmy $5 million a year before i paid briere that kind of money

Seems like a big risk and overpayment for a guy not even recovered from a concussion. that's strange. it certainly doesn't jibe with this: "Sabres general manager Darcy Regier said he's been assured by the team's medical staff and a concussion specialist that Connolly will be ready for the start of the season. Connolly's agent, J.P. Barry, said his client's rehab is progressing and, based on the last medical checkup, Connolly should be cleared to begin skating within two weeks." it also doesn't jibe with common sense. unless they were able to get a ton of insurance, which i think is increasingly hard to get for concussions, i have a hard time believing they would take such a big risk.
BetweenThePipes00 Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 maybe there is something in the CBA where if he can't play he doesn't count against the cap ... although they'd still have to pay him, and I can't imagine anyone insuring that contract with his head ... Dave_b, where are you? What loophole are we missing?

deluca67 Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 DeLuca is that you?  No? I think that was Larry Quinn. $2.9 is a bit high. I have trouble believing in a medical staff that couldn't figure out what was wrong with Dumont and Briere despite having half the sports world out with "Sports Hernias" <_< It's a long term risk I am suprised the Sabres took. I would have much preferred they try a$1.5 gamble on a Lindros for one year. If it didn't work out you cut him and lose very little. B-)
