Quickdraw Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 ... would be to have the Banner Babes do the modelling :P No, the best way to introduce the new uniforms is doing it as they throw it into a trash can, pour gasoline into it, and set that biiiiiiiyatttttch ablaze, and THEN apologize to the public for trashing our tradition.

JonathanH Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 The whole thing hasn't been unveiled how can you judge? Im waiting for the exact color scheme, because the whole thing makes it. Well guess what, you don't have buy it, and you can get a Pominville 3rd jersey if you want. A dollar is all the same to them. We're all rooting for the same team.
Bmwolf21 Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 The whole thing hasn't been unveiled how can you judge? You're right, the whole thing hasn't been released yet, so the rush to panic seems a little premature. The catch is, there is enough info out there to show us which direction they are heading, and it seems to be that we'll look like an expansion tea, not a team with nearly 40 years of history & tradition. Im waiting for the exact color scheme, because the whole thing makes it. You can put a turd on fine china, but it ain't gonna change the fact that its still a turd. Well guess what, you don't have buy it, and you can get a Pominville 3rd jersey if you want. A dollar is all the same to them. We're all rooting for the same team. Well guess what, I think we'll see when the merchandise hits the shelves. My take is that there has already been enough negative reaction that one of two things is going to happen - we'll either see a new logo that is dramatically different than the slug; or we'll see the alternate (original blue) sweaters will outsell the new designs combined, which will force the team into a NY Islanders-type redesign. I am sure that given the amount of negative press toward the logo and uniform change, the Sabres, TG & the league are going to be closely watching merchandise sales of the new stuff.
Quickdraw Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 The whole thing hasn't been unveiled how can you judge? Schopp, is that you? :o
Sabre Dance Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 The most disappointing thing about this logo fiasco is the lack of marketing skill that was used. The Anaheim Ducks had a season very similar to the Sabres. They were also due to change colors/logos, as Disney sold them off. They had a press conference on June 22, just days after the season was over (and while excitement about the team was still high) in front of over 800 season ticket holders. With great pomp and circumstance, the Ducks new logo/colors were unveiled. Those attending the conference could go to the Ducks team store afterwards, buy a new jersey and have one of the players sign it. How much money do you think the Ducks have taken in since then? On the other hand, the Sabres chose to shroud the issue in mystery. I wasn't even sure they were going to go back to the blue and gold next season. Then the new logo (or is it?) was leaked to the public. Mayhem ensued. The team management panicked and pulled the old road uniform out of the bottom of the locker (literally) as the "third" jersey. Now, we have to wait until the end of September before we know for sure what the new uniforms are going to look like. Even though season ticket sales are strong, three months worth of potential new logo merchandies sales will have been lost. Depending on whether the "slug" logo is for real, it is likely that the only "new" item that will sell well is the third (vintage) jersey. Just like everything else in Buffalo, the new uniforms will arrive a day late, a dollar short and with a cloud of controversy hanging over them. Nicely done, Sabres! -Ed <_<
jerryg Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 It definitely appears that the team is going to do some work on the uni's before the big unveil. Quinn said yesterday that there would be Sabres involved in the final logo and maybe the words "Buffalo" or "Sabres" somewhere in there. How much does anyone want to bet that they're going to put the old logo on the shoulders and stick a couple crossed sabres under the slug??? Or maybe crossed sabres on the home sweater and the word "Sabres" under the slug on the road...or vice-versa. Or how about this: have the Sabre stabbing the slug like the current B on the shoulders
