cesna Posted July 4, 2006 Report Posted July 4, 2006 I like the approach the Sabres are taking and I can't help but draw the comparison to the NE Patriots. I think it is more about the "system" and the coach then about individual players. All you need to do is keep your "core" intact like NE did with Brady, Branch, (the beloved...not) Bruschi. And the rest are just interchangeable parts. They key for Darcy is to truly identify the core. If he does this... we should have the potential for more long playoff runs that may even bring us a CUP or 2.
Corp000085 Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 sabres will = the patriots when they win a stanley cup or two using this formula. i do like how you think though.

jerryg Posted July 5, 2006 Report Posted July 5, 2006 That's how the Devils do it. They're always competitive and they rarely overpay for a player. They keep the core together and keep plugging in no-names from Albany who step up and play.

They're almost over the cap and haven't resigned RFAs Gionta and Gomez. I'll give sweet Lou credit for locking down Elias.

The much more difficult part is signing these "core" players to 3 year contracts.
