Biggest surprises in the NHL this season?

Here are a few that surprised me:

Vancouver not making the playoffs at all.

The Rangers nearly winning a division.

The first-round exits of all top four playoff seeds out West. (Not individually, just the collective collapse of all four).

I think that the collapse of detroit, philly, toronto, and dallas officially signalled the end of the "old NHL". Sure, it ended last july, but these teams were the holdovers. Now that one season is nearly complete, i'm going to be very interested to see how parity, the cap, and the style implimented by buffalo, edmonton, carolina, etc. takes shape. Next season will be as exciting as this season.
