Let's go Buffalo chant after Canes' goal

I thought that chant after the first Canes goal was unbelievable. We're giving the Oiler fans a run for their money now. I didn't hear it after the other goals, but sometimes it's hard to pick it up on TV.

I went to the game tonight and can definitely say I was proud of the way the fans started the "Let's Go Buffalo" chant when things started to look like they weren't clicking. They also had the chant going several times when things were clicking.

There were several times that the chant began simultaneously at opposite ends of the rink and it took about 45 seconds for one to win out over the other.

My ears still have a very slight ringing in them. I can't recall that ever happening after a sporting event, concert, yes, sporting event, no.

I don't know if they showed it on OLN or not, but before Doug sung the anthems, they had 8 kids skate out on the ice wearing Sabres sweaters and carrying flags. There were 8 kids representing the 8 countries of origin of the Sabres. I don't know if they were the Sabres kids or not (I know they weren't necessarily representing their own father's country as Vanek and Max are a little young to have 8-10 year old kids) but it was really cool.

It was a blast to be there. Hopefully Teppo and Henrik are good to go on Friday, but as long as one of the 2 are ready I think the Sabres have an excellent chance to head back to the Nascar race on Sunday with a 2 game lead.

i was there and i can say, i did not sit down in the second period..AMAZING TIME

i cant believe the atmosphere tonight

At one point, OLN flashed to a shot of the glass above the boards just swaying and shaking from the fans pounding on it. That was a cool site.

That was an awesome shot!

I was at the game and I can't believe the electricity that was in that building. The cheers started no matter what was going on. But that second period, I found myself high fiving and hugging people I don't even know. This was by far my best ever experience at a hockey game.

Dave, I didn't see this on OLN...that was the station I taped, I'll go back and watch it today, but CBC might have shown that. Their usually more apt to cover stuff like that.

This sounds like the Sabres borrowed a page from Ottawa...don't the Sens do this for Saturday night games throughout the season? Have little kids skate out with the starting lineup for the anthems?

I'm not sure if Ottawa does that or not. It wouldn't surprise me though as they are a fairly class organization. While I watch a lot of Ottawa games, I typically start watching the Loafs (when the Sabres aren't playing) to get the HNIC in full regalia.

The kids started at the Zamboni door and skated in front of the Carolina bench then lined up along the red line. They held the flags up through both anthems and then skated toward the penalty box and then back to the Zamboni door.

It was REALLY cool and I hope that becomes a fixture of the rest of this playoff run.

I agree and I thought the glass was going to tumble onto the ice they were rocking it so hard.

The rockin' glass shot was about the best camera work by OLN...

Alas OLN does not show the national anthems being sung,,Nor any of the

ceremony that precedes the singing...Seeing the 8 kids with the flags

wudda been pretty cool.

I saw the kids on CBC. You're right, CBC loves to show that kind of stuff. I thought that was good.

Did you guys see the anthems in Edmonton the night before. All of Canada was talking about how the anthem singer stopped midway through the Canadian anthem and let the crowd finish singing.

It was pretty inspiring stuff. 19,000people singing, and they sang good too. You have to try and see the shot of Ryan Smyth on the bench as the crowd is singing, and behind him is a mentally challenged fellow (McTavish mentioned the kid in the post-game, apparently the team knows him), and this kid is absolutely belting the tune out.

How do you not win after that. If you folks in Buffalo sing your American anthem like that on Friday, I don't know how the Sabres lose.

I made the trip back home to Buffalo for the game and it was just amazing. There was a shift in the 2nd period when I think it was 3-1 where we laid a few big hits in a row on them and the crowd just went insane. The volume was already at a 9.5 and it seemed like it got spontaneously turned up to 12 or so. It was one of the loudest moments I've ever experienced in a sports arena.

The HSBC arena is really a great facility, too. I would have been just as happy to keep the Aud, but if they were going to build a new one, I'm glad they did a great job with it.

One thing I was surprised about was the relative absence of tailgating. I was expecting a scene like we have at the Ralph, but it was nothing like that. There were only a few people hanging out in our parking lot, which was right next to the arena, with food/drink before the game. I was also surprised that the Anchor bar, where we had wings at about 4 PM, was pretty empty -- I was expecting it to be packed.

Even so, the fans were fantastic. The atmosphere was electric and everyone was really into the action. "Let's go, Buffalo" must have gone around 50 times, each time really loud. I think I saw one or 2 carolina fans but that's about all. After the game I saw somebody jump into the fountain/pool next to the arena.

I wish I was going back tomorrow night, but it's not feasible from out of town. I think it would help our guys out a lot though if everyone showed up and was as raucous and fired up as was the case last night.

Go Sabres.

I saw that. Nice gesture by Edmonton for the American Anthem as well.
