Wrong...

Canes fans don't shout out "land of the Red"

Perhaps you are confused...when the line "and the rocket's red glare" is sung a fans yell "Red" just as that word is spoken.

The words are not changed at all.

It's in keeping with the song and the team.

It's also been a tradition since the team arrived in Raleigh.

It's been a tradition for all 14,000 of your fans?

Their fans have a dumb tradition.

Ours were just drunk.

Yep. It's been a tradition for a number of years for a few of the die hard fans here.

Kind of like bankruptcy is for the Sabres.

Oh, and your ownership is something to be proud of?

Pot meet Kettle.

BTW, the Sabres owner Tom Gollisano was in your parking lot thanking Buffalo fans for their support.

Hey, a lot of us Carolina fans have lauded the Sabres management and ownership this year. That was a great gesture from Golisano and he's the best thing that has happened to the Sabres in the last decade.

If you want to see an interesting group of fans, go to a Cornell game. Their fans yell out red. Hell, I've even seen one of them yell it out during the national anthem of a BU-Minnesota game.

That'd be funny if bankruptcy were either a tradition or somehow the fault of the club.

The Sabres' then-parent company was cooking their books. Corporate officials are now in jail because of it (and rightfully so). White collar crime is not unique to Buffalo. In fact, according to SEC filings at the time, the parent company was headquartered in PA, not Bflo.

But don't let my illustration of your ignorance discourage you from taking a few more jabs. You might even find one that works. Shoot, there's always the 4 Super Bowl thingy you can fall back on. None of us have heard those before. <_<

Call me old school, but If you yell anything during the National Anthem, I don't have much time for the

tradition.

Aye. I haven't been online much of late, but it seems that there's a serious "StadiumWall-ization" going on 'round these here parts... :(

Sorry...I'll leave... :(

It's always the case: fans of opposing teams are jerks and fans of my team are angels (unless my team happens to have a fan-base that prides itself on being jerks). It's even worse at my home stadium. Doubly so when the visiting team wins. And the last visiting team's fans were angels compared to this visiting team's fans....Generally though, there are jerk fans for every team, and the blinders that fans put on for their team are also put on for their fellow fan. I'm guessing every account of a Sabres' fan "misdeed" could likely be countered by an account of a Canes' fan "misdeed," and it only isn't (except as counter-point to Canes' fans points above) because the Sabres' fans are just happy they won, and perhaps expect some extra flack being in "enemy territory."

Hmmm, let's see.

New arena, division championships, two conference finals since bringing the team to the triangle.

Well, it's no Buffalo but, yeah, I'd say that's something to be proud of.

I'd rather listen to people yell out words from the anthem instead of listening to all these singers who bastardize the ending.

Fair enough.

But the original post was not attacking that, and was instead misrepresenting when the fans yell "Red."

Hey Goat -

Not funny. We didn't want ignorant insults on our boards, no use in bringing it here. And I'd say, even being a Canes fan, that the bankruptcy makes the story of the turnaround that much better. Tell that to Pittsburgh, they'd envy the Sabres trajectory right now with their mess.

Yeah, how'd that turn out?

How are those Canes playoff ticket prices working out for you guys?

If it weren't for the good graces of the Buffalo fans you're attempting to insult, your barn would have had 6,000 empty seats for a Conference final playoff game. :o

You Cane fans should be embarassed! Good thing the bankrupted Sabres fans came to your rescue! By the way, you're welcome! :D

Ohh....boo-hoo.

Your team was owned by a family of crooks. Big deal, it's not your family is it? It was a friendly jab from an opposing fan, get over yourself.

And as far as "illustrating ignorance" I'll let you continue to do that with your link to that really cool song.

I guess I missed the "friendly" part.

You bring up traditions, yet fail to understand them. The Sabres were 5 years old and sported the most powerful offense in the league. At the start of the playoffs, a local musician went to a studio and recorded it. It's 31 years old, the names of the players have long-since changed, but it's part of our tradition. Tradition, you know, kinda' like Carolinians defacing the National Anthem. It just so happens that our tradition is a lot less disrespectful.

The Goat

Interesting that your username is exactly how we refer to the Sabres' logo. Are you really a Sabres' fan, or do you just wish you were?

I feel for you man, I really do. Anyone whose idea of hockey culture stems from the likes of the veritable cornucopia of wisdom that is Tripp Tracey gets a pass or two in my book. I understand, it's not your fault.

1. FWIW, since your team moved down there, The Sabs have been to 3 ECFs...

2. Actually the initial post was this:

There has been a lot of discussion on Canes discussion boards that Sabres fans at game one were out of line, disrespectful and abusive. Now while I dont condone the generlizations and verbal abuse of Sabres fans and the city of Buffalo, I feel ashamed and embarrassed of the behavior I have heard Sabres fans partaking in (disrepecting the national enthem, smashing glass giveaways, extreme drunkeness and abuse). Its utterly rediculous to travel all that way to cheer on our hometown team and embarass everyone at home. Remember, when you go to away games, you are not only representing yourself, but every person who shares your allegiance (Sabres fans and the people of Buffalo). Go and cheer on our boys but please be respectful and dont give everyone else a bad name!!!!

GO SABRES!

While Millertyme was speaking to Sabres fans, I would suggest you could heed his advice also. You come here representing the Canes fan base. Don't embarass them.

It was the failure and misrepresentation of a Sabre fan here that brought up tradition to begin with - remember the conversation about Canes fans yelling 'Red' along with "and the rockets RED glare." (By the way, if that's what you deem defacing the national anthem, I suggest you get out of the house more often.)

Second, I could care less about the Buffalo song. It's a Buffalo tradition, great (I feel a little bit more sorry for you, but you seem happy with it, so good for you.) But I didn't misrepresent it.

Third, I am not a Sabres fan, you're very perceptive.

Fourth, please don't feel sorry for me, and certainly not for the inexplicable reasons you listed. I learned hockey by growing up playing and watching the game played all over the world, I never relied on Trip Tracy, John Forslund or Rick Jeanneret, for that matter.

That's all for now. Thanks for the chat Campy.

I for one feel sorry for you, after all you do live in redneck country. Might not be as poor as Western NY, well we all know it' not, not even close but i'll take a homeless guy, an abandoned building here and there over having to deal with hicks 24/7.

I for one plan on being drunk, loud and abusive. If they are dumb enough to give away glass before the game i'll smash that too. If a Canes fan gets in my face or i see a Canes fan getting into someone elses face i plan not to walk away but get right back into his face. I'm not a trash talker, you get in my face and say something stupid to be funny, i'll just punch you in the face.

There's a well thought out intelligent commentary.

Of course, anyone who purposely smashes a glass like you describe should be arrested for disorderly conduct on the spot. But don't let that stop you from having a little "fun" at everyone else's expense.
