ok man haha. Hasn’t rochesters been good?

EAsportsish GM mode mindset

I mean... the Islanders don't have much now in the NHL either. They haven't been close for years and Lou never even really retooled.

Also everyone here is in "trade picks and prospects for upgrades" mode. Your point seems about 4 years old.

Ya because I’ve been making it for longer than anyone else by far haha

Going on 5 years. That’s what happens when you accurately identify Adams as a fraud so early on

I'll just say this, I'd rather miss the playoffs than deal with Lou's team styling. What's the point of playoff hockey; if you can't even tolerate to watch the regular season? His teams are quite literally unwatchable and are both built and coached to do their best 1990's dead puck era hockey. I have negative interest in having a classical 4th line or an archaic view of fan interaction. Let's just let this old man go off into the sunset and let the league be better as a whole without his influence.

Why does it have to be one way or the other? Why does everyone have to look at the current situation and plant their flag on either? It's mostly or all youth or mostly or all veterans?

I always want to have a somewhat young team, but I understand there's times to strategically add veterans even if that means giving up some prospects.

Personally, even if you're on the verge of winning a cup, I don't want to strip the system bare to take shots at veterans to try to get you over the top... On the other hand, even in the most extreme rebuild, I think you need to have some veterans.

I'm guessing everyone on this board is probably not to the extremes... But the way that some people are presenting their arguments... It seems like you have to be on one side or the other or you get a thumbs down.

I can’t go that far, but I definitely understand that line of thinking. Fortunately, I don’t think that decision is on the table at all.

On the "Lou" discussion, I would take 70-75 year old Lou as GM or POHO or both.  82 year old Lou, I'm sure will find a role as a Senior Advisor if he wants one. I would have no objection to him having such a role with the Sabres, though it will never happen.  I would not want him to be our GM or POHO at this point.  I concede that even with the Islanders producing diminishing returns recently, Lou is objectively a better "hockey-man" than Kevyn Adams (assuming the universally accepted metric is still wins and playoff appearances), but the bar is low there, and the evidence supports that Lou isn't the hockey-man he once was.  I would prefer to take a chance on someone new to the role.

The larger point in all of this is that teams that have recently accomplished much more than the Sabres have under Adams, are making changes or are taking substantial heat from their local media and fan-bases, for failing to meet expectations that are significantly higher and more difficult to obtain, than the expectations in Buffalo.  There is nothing rash about expecting change when the GM of your team has failed to produce a playoff season in 5 years, and has overseen a regression in the past two.  I think it was @Weave  who referenced the draft lottery as the most likely drop-dead date; I think that is correct.  If Adams is still the GM on May 6th, we are headed into a lame-duck season.

If Islanders start a rebuild, is there a chance they make Barzal available at the right price?

We have officially reached “Let’s acquire every team’s best player season”

Your wish is Kevyn Adams command.

They’re already there. Even though it was an expiring contract, moving Nelson was the start.

It's why I wonder if you can pry Dobson out.

Maybe you can go nuts.... our 1st, Rosen, Samuelsson, Byram or Power, Quinn, and our 2nd for Barzal and Dobson. Yes, ik I'm getting rid of players that have fallen out of favor but let me dream.

Dobson for Byram, Rosen

Barzal for 1st, Quinn, Muel and a 2nd

I actually get a good level of catharsis when I read the “I’d rather miss the playoffs” posts. Like actually seeing it in writing I get reassurance I’m not insane in thinking it really, really is easportsgmmode for some. The team and its assets are like a collectible item

I just want to win lol. Maybe you have to be born in the 80s or earlier, I dunno. I just view sports differently. I’d have a lot of fun sharing wins with friends no matter how they come.

it’s not even about the playoffs anymore. It’s about the fact we aren’t even a part of the league anymore: the 82 game seasons don’t matter. Don’t care what the style is for those games if the games aren’t in the realm of outright NEGLECT anymore

The reason you can now trade all those prospects is because of Adams. Fraud, isn't the right word but I get what you mean. He's certainly not good at team building.

I would rather go for Sorokin than Barzal.

So I’m guessing we hear a verdict on this early next week?

I'm thinking whenever Terry is done with the Bills draft, so Monday maybe?

Given the rumours about the possible shuffle, I suspect Kevyn and Terry have already talked about the structure of what's to come, or at least a few options. Otherwise, there's no rumour to speculate about.

This meeting will be about cementing those discussions into action.

I'm really curious as to whether Kevyn has presented Terry with a plan that Terry's pondering, or Terry has presented Kevyn with some direction/ultimatum that Kevyn has been pondering.

My expectation is we are suddenly going to be introduced to a new management or management structure. They will say they did extensive interviews and we will later learn there was no evidence of this.

I think if they were going status quo they would have announced it today so it got buried by the draft news. I really think if it’s Monday or Tuesday it’s good news for those that want change.
