MISabresFan Posted Friday at 07:23 PM Report Posted Friday at 07:23 PM Love the comment on Sabre's Leadership- "They're going to put together what they think is the best team and best roster " I think they were wrong. Quote

Dude I’m honestly jealous. Like this is the management team you’ve been waiting for, in all seriousness - not snark. The offseason talking point is, indeed, “we assembled a fine team, they f*cked up coming in out of shape” Like, you actually got it: your management team is bulletproof to results mattering They used “the players came in overconfident” last season - so they are literally running back excuses now as far as I am concerned, fans looking to measure by the metrics the rest of the league does (ie standings) should be made aware they are welcome in the fan base, but a clear minority: they are welcome to root for wins, but that’s not what we are interested in doing here in buffalo Edited Friday at 10:08 PM by Thorner 1 Quote
North Buffalo Posted Friday at 10:30 PM Report Posted Friday at 10:30 PM Um why dont season have offseason training in Buffalo say every 2-3 weeks just evaluate where these guys are at... give them a month off then bring them all in? 1 2 Quote

jad1 Posted Friday at 10:35 PM Report Posted Friday at 10:35 PM Don't know if the team is allowed to organize that in the off-season. The players would need to take it upon themselves to do it, hence the comments encouraging to do so from management. That said, the problem wasn't conditioning this year, the problem was roster construction and players too young to play outside their character. If you draft a bunch of finesse players and throw them on the ice at 21 or 22 years old, they're going to play like a finesse team. Telling them to lift weights isn't going to change that. Quote

The reasoning given back at the B&GI's was that per the CBA the team can't force them to stay in Buffalo in the off-season (that rings true) and that they had limited communications with the individual player's personal trainers in the off-season as well (which didn't seem as true). At that, Ruff said that he plans on taking a significantly different approach to the off-season. It sounded like he wants the players and team to agree to individualized training plans; which one would've expected was already happening. Would really like to see the entirety of the coaching staff under Ruff (with the POSSIBLE exception of Bales) canned. But wouldn't be surprised if they only can some of the training staff (gotta have scapegoats) while bringing the rest of the staff back en masse. And, can believe that some of the players didn't "train the right way" through the summer as so many of them are kids, they might simply not know any better and the fact that they're pro athletes in their early 20's (for the most part) would have them getting faster and stronger simply by getting closer to their primes. But IF that is actually the case; then a WHOLE lot of management and the hockey department need to be gone; because THEY aren't kids and SHOULD know their roles within a professional athletic program. 2 Quote

Taro T Posted Friday at 11:40 PM Report Posted Friday at 11:40 PM 12 minutes ago, Dr. Who said: Just an immense lack of wisdom in the positions of authority. It starts with the owner. Fair read. Another thing that was interesting at the B&GI's was Ruff saying (and am paraphrasing here) when asked about leadership from the players (in relation to 1 of the leaders getting traded and another being healthy scratched earlier in the year) that things look different from inside the organization than from outside and his preconceived notions on some of the players that he'd developed from playing against them were off. And he did mention how the team did have a lot of leadership, mentioning Greenway and Zucker by name as guys that helped the team's leadership group; personally got the impression that if he had it to do over again he'd likely have either just gone with Dahlin, Tuch, and Thompson as the captains (C,A,A) or added the other 2 mentioned to those 3. 2 Quote
zow2 Posted Saturday at 12:19 AM Report Posted Saturday at 12:19 AM They came back from Europe with two regulation losses vs NJ in their luggage. Never recovered from that quite honestly. Two games in and it felt like the season was over. 4 Quote

I said it months ago and I still expect to see Peca on this coaching staff next season. The rags have to clean house at this point, right? 1 Quote
gomper Posted Saturday at 01:01 AM Report Posted Saturday at 01:01 AM I like Lindy but I honestly don't care what his initial analysis is from him or the players. This season was a failure of epic proportions. Roster construction is flawed more than the O rings on the Challenger. In what world does a 30+ goal scorer have to take ot upon himself to stand for his teammates? I hate this team and the 35,000 foot retrospective overlay only makes it worse. F them. 1 1 Quote
