Big city - not. Middle of Ohio - so. No other pro teams - ok, but none needed with The Ohio State University there. Why doesn't Rob Ray like going there? Quote

Three times the population of Buffalo? Fans from all over Ohio, a state that supports two NFL teams and THE Ohio State University? They probably have a much bigger fan base that the Sabres. Odd question to ask from a Sabres fan. 8 minutes ago, Pimlach said: Big city - not. So a city three times the size of Buffalo isn't.... big? They have nearly a million people. If you count the metro areas, Columbus is still nearly 2X Buffalo-Niagara. 8 minutes ago, Pimlach said: Middle of Ohio - so. Except for some fringe areas near Detroit and Pittsburgh, the whole state is going to support the franchise, and pretty much the entire state is within about a 2 hour drive from the arena. I actually go there and to Dayton a lot, at least 6 times a year I would guess. It feels like a small town to me. I like the town too, but even with a huge university isolated out in the suburbs (outside of Dublin, OH), and even with a downtown state capital - it just lacks a city vibe. Square miles are not the best and only way to measure a city. Jacksonville, FL is huge in square miles and so it Sitka, Alaska. Should the NHL move there too? It not an odd question. I go to Dayton and to Columbus all the time and I don't know any real dedicated hockey fans there. None. OSU football, OSU basketball, OSU baseball. Then arguments over the Bengal or Brown, Reds or Indians (Guardians). BTW - Buffalo's fan base is the most incorrectly calculated fan base in sports. So why does Rob Ray not like going there? LGR4GM Posted Thursday at 01:48 PM Report Posted Thursday at 01:48 PM Is this an ESPN+ exclusive game? Quote
DarthEbriate Posted Thursday at 01:55 PM Report Posted Thursday at 01:55 PM Columbus is (if wikipedia is correct) the #35 sized media market in the US. That's surrounded by cities with NFL/MLB/NBA teams (KC, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Las Vegas, Jacksonville). It's also headquarters for several companies (Nationwide Insurance being the most prominent). There is plenty of corporate sponsorship money available. 1 Quote
Pimlach Posted Thursday at 02:03 PM Report Posted Thursday at 02:03 PM I would like to cut a 8 teams out of the NHL. Too many teams and not enough star players. Season too long. Columbus would be the first one to go. So would Salt Lake Utes and the Ducks of Orange County ... Quote

Not that it matters, because they finished dead last and had a .330 Pts % that season. He's been such a bad GM. Especially, especially since he claims it's his decision to spend as he sees fit and they're under no financial restrictions. If that's true -- he's not trying to win. Fire him. They've left approximately $58M in cap space available across his 5 seasons as GM. Do or do not and he chooses not. 1 Quote

It’s 78 if you prorate their record over the 56 for a full season that year if you don’t, and just divide total games over 5 years by points and covert to 82 game pace, it’s 79.something Edited Thursday at 02:52 PM by Thorner 1 Quote
CallawaySabres Posted Thursday at 02:58 PM Report Posted Thursday at 02:58 PM Now that they are officially eliminated, they will play their best game of the year. Is it safe to put UPL in now that it's over? There is ZERO point in playing the 38 year old backup anymore. 56 minutes ago, Pimlach said: I would like to cut a 8 teams out of the NHL. What do we hope to gain by playing UPL at this point and is it worth the message it sends to the rest of the team? 1 Quote

If wins matter at all, there is possibly 2 points to be made by playing the 38yr old goalie. Why do we always give this team the wiggle room to make losing acceptable? Quote
