We all knew neither was a suitable partner for PoweR. CRIMINAL negligence by the GM Quote

He is solid defensively and engages physically (the anti Joker). Power has seemed to calm down since they have been paired together. Edited Wednesday at 11:57 AM by Flashsabre Quote

According to the box score, the attendance was 13,709. There's still a lot more this franchise needs to do to win back the paying customers. The Sabres are doing well right now in its typical end of season run that will again result in this team watching the playoffs from the couch. This has been going on for a generation. This is an important offseason. The owner and GM can't allow it to be mostly another status quo offseason. Urgency most be demonstrated to what is now a withered fanbase. 9 hours ago, PerreaultForever said: Because he's a trade chip currently not playing so if you like your current roster he's a valuable commodity to move for what you need. If you think we NEED an injury prone offensive center more than a goalie and/or a top 4 defensive D man you don't trade him but if you think we do need those things, there's your asset in the deal to make it happen. These games are so meaningless but they are having fun I guess. Been a long time since I've seen Carolina play that passive. Where do you get the notion that I'm satisfied with the current roster? How did you come up with such a wrong conclusion? Of course, I want the injury prone trade acquisition to get healthy and at least be a 2C for us next season. Do I want to add a defensive blueliner at a top 4 level? Of course. There are other chips in the system to pursue such a deal. I'm very happy about the Sabres end of season positive run. But I'm not deluded by it in recognizing that the roster still needs to be worked on. I strongly believe that if our GM can make a few smart deals to better round out the roster, this team will be in a better position to succeed. Urgency and action must be exhibited this offseason by the current staff. Maintaining the status quo is not only not acceptable but will again be self-sabotaging. Quote

Night Train Posted Wednesday at 12:42 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 12:42 PM Seen this before. Team wins when it's already over and no pressure. Poor UPL play. Floating back on D. Poor puck control. Coughing puck up under pressure. D-Men not clearing out forwards in front of the net. Many shots missing the net. Losing battles in the corners. Good 1st period, then nothing the last 2 periods. I'm pleased that Reimer seemed to give this team a boost. He's still a good #2 despite his age. . I hope they ID a true #1, since UPL seemed to struggle in that role. The team deflated in many games after he let some soft ones in. Way too many rebounds and poor angles on positioning. How many times did he leave the short side of the net wide open ? Fear the Run It Back idea with little movement. I'll give the off-season a chance but like many, need to see something. Ticket holders need a reason to invest. 1 Quote

What the Canes were trying to do last night was take away the first pass. Canes players stayed on top of the outlet players when we had the puck behind our net. In the first period our defensemen would have trouble finding an outlet to break out of the zone. Canes were hoping for turnovers but for the most part Sabres stayed patient. Sabres seemed to solve it by the second and by the third with the 3 goal lead all they had to do was keep flipping it out of the zone. The Sabres zone defense is much better but they pay the price for blocking shots. I think 4 different players came off the ice in pain. I guess they got all summer for the wounds to heal so might as well try playoff type hockey for awhile. Quote

I had my doubts even as late as midseason, but I think he's a core piece. I may be drinking the "April Sabres" Kool-Aid. I think he one of the most dynamic players on the team and given he has played just 241 games there is big upside. I don't know if we will be able to keep him but I would like to. 1 Quote

Also, the previous two seasons the Sabres were darned near EXCELLENT in the third period, but usually came out in a coma. So, it was refreshing to watch them find a new and inventive way of pissing away a season; get our hopes up early, THEN fumble it away. What new thing will they come up with next year! /s Quote

mjd1001 Posted Wednesday at 03:45 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 03:45 PM After watching some replays of the game and thinking about it a little more.... I think they played not-so-well last night. Its not just that they were outshot. They got away with some giveaways, Carolina seemed to me to have more possession and 'better possession (not sure of the stats on this, but that is what it felt like to me). I think the Sabres were outplayed positionally. Now, they got the better goaltending and Tage and Tuch put the puck in the net and they are having great years, so having the talent to put the puck in the net when you get the chance matters. Its just this winning streak/run.....remember, I think it was 2018 or 2019 where in November the Sabres were winning quite a bit but being outplayed every game....and eventually that 'luck' ran out and they started losing? This streak has the same feeling to me. They are winning. They are scoring. But the positional play just seems....lacking. Winning is better than losing. So its more fun this way, It just doesn't 'look' right. Quote
