JoeSchmoe Posted Friday at 04:11 AM Report Posted Friday at 04:11 AM I've had a boycott in place where I won't buy any tickets until the team is in the playoffs. I did go to the Colorado game at the start of the losing streak, but I think they were in a playoff spot (or close) when my friend bought the tix. My 15yo daughter's been asking about going to a game before the end of the season. I think I'll break down and go Tuesday's game... They're practically giving the tickets away anyways. Am I doing the right thing? 😁 Quote

You are only helping another Sabres fan recoup potential loss for their unwillingness or availability to go themselves. You can boycott at the concession stand or at the team store if you want but do not disappoint your child. 1 Quote

But don't overindulge and yell obscenities when the play doesn't go as you like it. Remember, you are supposed to be an example to your daughter. In another year or so your daughter will find you irritating will be a target of her menacing scowls. 😁 Edited Friday at 12:46 PM by JohnC 1 Quote

Mustache of God Posted Friday at 01:15 PM Report Posted Friday at 01:15 PM Do ticket prices on the secondary market plunge on the day of the game? I've got friends coming into town who are Lightning fans and they're going to the game. I'm planning on buying a ticket in their section but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Quote

Yea, unless it is a high demand game. For example leafs tickets typically go up but for the Lightning, you should be able to find something. Also, you just need to buy a ticket on their level (1, 2, or 300) no one is going to check to see if you are in that specific section. Edited Friday at 01:19 PM by LGR4GM 1 Quote

DarthEbriate Posted Friday at 01:34 PM Report Posted Friday at 01:34 PM Definitely provide experiences for your children -- just hope that the good and energized Sabres decide to show up that day. Don't do the following with your children: blow up their adoptive home planets and families; cut off their limbs (except in certain medical situations, consult with your doctor); or threaten to turn them (or their fellow siblings if absent) to the Dark Side of the Cup. I'm good at parenting! 1 Quote

Pretty much every day I'm driving her to hockey (she plays 25min out of town), or to the gym, or over to her friends'... We went on a ski trip to Quebec last month, etc... I have taken a picture of her beside shark girl every year since she was little (the pic in my avatar is cropped from this). Google Photos' AI system recognized this and did a cool collage of her over the years. I should probably keep that going for at least another year. Quote

I'm good at parenting! I don't know how much your daughter follows the team and how she feels about it. But, I'm guessing there is a chance she doesn't feel the emotional lows with the losses after losses that a lot of us do. Many of us had our 'fandom' grow in the past attending games. Sure, I mostly watched on TV, but as a little kid I went to many games at the Aud growing up, and while I did follow the standings, the product on the ice that particular night was more important to me than the standings. 1 Quote
K-9 Posted Friday at 03:58 PM Report Posted Friday at 03:58 PM Daughter time trumps Sabres time. Sabres might lose 10-0 and then they’re on to their next game, but you and your kid will always have this experience together. Quote

Take her to the game and be a positive role model. Even if the team stinks. Edited 17 hours ago by Pimlach Quote

Is the franchise involved with the secondary market where they it gets a % of the transaction? How does this specialty market work? Do the Sabres sell discounted tickets to the company or do fans who can't go to the game sell back the tickets at a discounted price to the secondary company? Quote
GASabresIUFAN Posted 13 hours ago Report Posted 13 hours ago A teenage girl wants to go to a hockey game with her dad. I’d have been buying tickets and making dinner reservations as soon as the conversation had ended. Those moments are precious. Grab them with both hands. May I suggest in the future to take her on college visit trips. My daughters say they were some of the most fun we had. We did the standard tour stuff, but we also tried to something fun on campus. At an IU visit we saw a basketball game or a football game, at Miami of Ohio we saw a D1 hockey game. At Florida St they have a student circus. You get the idea. 1 Quote
JoeSchmoe Posted 12 hours ago Author Report Posted 12 hours ago Thanks for all the replies everyone. As an update, a very generous Sabrespace poster has donated some tickets to me so I can spend time with my daughter, while keeping the boycott alive! This place is the best dysfunctional family on the internet! I appreciate the comments about spending time with my daughter. Thankfully, I think I'll always have a close relationship with my her. We're pretty tight. Maybe it'll change in the next year or so... I hope not!!! 1 4 Quote
