Excellent game for the most part and great job by Reimer. Once again the Sabres are proving at the end of the season to be the best team not to make the playoffs, and any first place team in the East is breathing a huge sigh of relief for it. How unfortunate that is for us.

They need to get rid of the guys who completely panic under pressure.Β
*cough * cough Samuelsson and CliftonΒ

If anything, get rid of Samuelsson for another d-man just like Clifton.Β Clifton was a bull out there tonight.

If the GM gambles on having UPL being the #1 goalie, he is making a big gamble. I just wish Reimer was a few years younger where it would be more likely for him to handle a heavy-duty load of a #1 goalie.Β

Anderson was 41. Reimer just turned 37. You can't bring him back?

So is Norris just done for the year, then? Great trade, Kev!

In fairness, JBD looks like he could be a serviceable Dman and the team is playing better without Cozens, but he couldn't have snagged a better return than a guy who can't even stay on the ice after 3 games and a possibly serviceable Dman?Β

Season 2 Wtf GIF by Parks and Recreation

We weren't going to be in the playoffs when we made the trade, so may as well get Norris as healthy as he's ever been with 6 months off. On a related note we beat the Senators in Ottawa and Cozens was -4 on the night. We're 7-3 our last 10, and I'm giving this group who have been playing solid, entertaining hockey a chance. Hoping Norris is a big piece for next year when we start tied for first.

Cozens just forgot what team he was playing for. Perfect pass to Krebs. Tape to tape. That's mad skills.Β

We looked like a real hockey team so where was this earlier? All it's going to do is get us into picking around 8th again and convincing management and owner we are on the right track. Boston fans thank you.Β

Goalies look better when the D isn’t giving the other guy easy open looks.

Defenders look better when the goalie makes saves.

Huh.Β πŸ€”

I’d like to thank Cozens for all his efforts in helping the Sabres sweep the Sens. Β

The fans will help him along with selling that narrative as well.

The difference tonight was pretty clearly which team had  Dylan Cozens 😜

Β

In all seriousness, the bloom has started to come off Cozens in Ottawa after his quick start.

Last 9 games his stat line looks pretty Sabresy. He’s got 1 goal and 4 assists, and his goals for % is just 33%.

It wouldn’t bother me if he did well outside of buffalo. I wouldn’t even call people villains and tell them to leave the board, if someone gave an update on his progress since leaving..we can leave that to others

The end of season parade we are throwing seems to be centrered around our joy in the players we incorrectly, unsuccessfully built a core around, being somewhat confirmed to be lacking, in other destinations. Im not sure which portion is supposed to reflect well on the GM, or the Buffalo Sabres. Don’t see the need to credit them for identifying an underperforming player, and being paid handsomely to do it, when mjd has been writing a thesis on it for free.Β

I never put the bloom ON cozens in Ottawa. Don’t think I’ve said much beyond β€œwish him the best”

Meanwhile, what the hell has gotten into Alex Tuch?

Goals in 4 straight games and 16 in his last 22?Β Leads the entire NHL over that latter stretch.

Since he and Tage came back from the break after being overlooked for the 4 Nations they are tied for 3rd in NHL goals, one out of first.

Me neither. I think Cozens desperately wanted to fix the Sabres and I’ll always appreciate that about him.

As for Tuch, it sucks it needs to be so one note but the answer is unfortunately the same as many of the questions lately, re: what’s β€œgotten into” them: it’s a function of playing out the stretch

Tuch played at a 90 point pace when the calendar turned to January in 2023 until the end of the seasonΒ

He was back to a 65 point pace over the first two months the following seasonΒ

It is KINDA funny to think about all the back and forth we do in trying to predict what will happen, and after months and months when all is said and done, Adams teams averaged mid-70s before this season and this season we are going to end up…mid 70sΒ

Those predictions charts that come out that always seem to have us in the same spot..this is why. A lot of the variation we *think* we are seeing is just because we are a little too closeΒ
