Flashsabre Posted Tuesday at 04:08 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 04:08 PM (edited) Coach David Carle could lead Denver to their 3rd Frozen Four championship in 4 years. A good organization would jump on him as the next great young coach to come into the league. So the Sabres won’t bother and keep Lindy or make Appert head coach. Id love to see this organization make the smart choice for once. Can’t believe they could have had Zito as GM. Edited Tuesday at 04:09 PM by Flashsabre Quote
Archie Lee Posted Tuesday at 04:16 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 04:16 PM Agreed totally. We need a new head coach. Ruff has had two seasons with a better than DeLuca .500 record in his last 11 as a head coach. He hasn’t coached a team to 3 straight years in the playoffs, for a quarter century. He is not the coach you hire to bring structure to a team. He is yesterday’s man. If an established head coach with a recent track record of sustained success is not available, and they likely won’t be, then Carle would be a good choice. Others: Washington assistant Mitch Love and Hershey coach Todd Nelson. Quote
Bangarang Posted Tuesday at 04:30 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 04:30 PM I don't see any chance Ruff is gone without Adams being fired first. Quote
tom webster Posted Tuesday at 04:44 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 04:44 PM (edited) Carle has already turned down other opportunities to come to the NHL. TPEGS would have to put on an enormous selling job to get him to come to Buffalo. He’s only leaving college for what he deems as the perfect job. Edited Tuesday at 04:44 PM by tom webster 1 1 1 Quote

DarthEbriate Posted Tuesday at 05:47 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 05:47 PM Maybe if they tell him he wouldn't be leaving college, because he'd be taking over as head coach at Sabres University. Players are mostly the same age.... 1 1 Quote

I'm not really sure why any of these guys would leave some of these powerhouse positions. Yeah, the pay's not as good, but the job security is great. Hakstol, Quinn... these guys should have never left. They could have been perennial powers and legends at their schools. Instead they're bouncing around from job to job every couple of years, dragging the family all over the country. 1 Quote

Cranky old man Posted Tuesday at 06:04 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 06:04 PM “Hello Coach Carle, this Terry Pegula, owner of the Buffalo Sabres. ……the hockey team in Buffalo…..right. I’ ll pay you one million dollars to come to Buffalo and coach the team….yes the Sabres….no you don’t have to pick any assistant coaches, we’ve taken care of that for you…..they are very cost effective….I mean experienced…..our GM…..You will love him….its Keyvion Adams, he tries really hard…..he knows what it takes to win….well no we haven’t won much for, for , for the last 14 years…. OH We talk all the time …..about winning…..He has a lot of great ideas, just the other day he called starquist and suggested they feed the tuna mayonnaise. Hello ? Coach ? Kenyon , I think we were disconnected. “ 1 Quote

Some of the leagues most successful coaches were hired as first timers, Jon Cooper leading the mix. 10 minutes ago, shrader said: I'm not really sure why any of these guys would leave some of these powerhouse positions. It's hard to compare the organization of Tampa Bay to that of the Buffalo Sabres. I'm scarred by the run of Housley, Krueger and then Granato. This whole discussion feel moot because we know Appert is Adams guy for some reason, well the reason is that he's home-grown "talent" that's less expensive than brining in someone from the outside. I totally agree. If DeBoer or Bednar became available and were interested in coming to Buffalo? Sure. Maybe Sullivan. I don't have any interest in Tortorella. I'm not a big Laviolette fan. At this point, Gallant seems to be out of the coaching picture. Knoblauch might be on the bubble in Edmonton. 40 year old Washington Assistant, Mitch Love, might be my first choice: Todd Nelson, from what I understand, has resisted offers to return to the NHL as an assistant, because he is committed to being a head coach. The man just wins at all the levels he has coached. He is 55. Quote

As opposed to a coach with NHL experience who has been fired (maybe multiple times) so is now/will be available? I honestly don't know which is better. Who is out there that has NHL head coaching experience, is available, and hasn't been fired for cause? Quote
HumanSlinky39 Posted Tuesday at 08:54 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 08:54 PM Unfortunately, I think this organization is hellbent on Appert getting the job once Lindy gets kicked upstairs (my assumed endgame). I don't think they're ambitious enough to swing big. This late season bump in performance all but guarantees "the process" continues, IMO. Quote

I've heard several "insider" types say he's not really interested in the NHL as he loves being what he is and he has already turned down teams like Philly. Having said that, there are no guarantees college success translates to NHL. I'm actually fine if Ruff comes back but I wasn't happy with the assistants this year and really would like to see changes there as I'm sure many of you would. Quote
kas23 Posted yesterday at 12:31 PM Report Posted yesterday at 12:31 PM I think Ruff should be kicked upstairs. He may not be panning out as a HC right now, but he knows what it takes to win in the NHL. He has good vision and I trust his personnel moves. He’s probably the most experienced person in the organization right now. 1 Quote
xzy89c1 Posted yesterday at 01:47 PM Report Posted yesterday at 01:47 PM Is the success rate for College coaches coming to NHL high? I dont think it is. Very different coaching boys vs coaching men. Quote

The salary cap itself is an extremely tough thing to navigate for experienced people. Quote

His value is more in guiding KA not to do stupid things. Quote
