Brawndo Posted March 29 Report Posted March 29 https://www.nhl.com/de/news/schlagschuss-episode-20-jj-peterka There is some good news about his future with the Sabres Interviewer: "Do you see your future in Buffalo and want to stick around to help the organization return to its former strength?" JJ: "Definitely. If you look at the talented young players we have and of which I'm now a part, I want to continue building on that. I think we can create something really special in the coming years." 7 1 Quote

Thorner Posted March 29 Report Posted March 29 Sort of the copy paste answer but better than nothing I don’t think he’s a crucial piece but he’s a pretty good player 1 Quote

I think he is a crucial piece. He's trending towards being a ppg winger. Will he ever be a Selke guy or a truly elite player? I don't think so; but ppg guys (especially homegrown ones) are what winning teams need. Quote

Never mind wingers. I’m not saying I wouldn’t keep him I’m saying he’s not a crucial piece in building a playoff team - we just signed a 50+ point winger in FA it’s the one thing you CAN get with relative ease. I see talent but not a game breaker right now with Peterka I’m not creating statues of him like Terry Edited March 29 by Thorner Quote

PerreaultForever Posted March 30 Report Posted March 30 Given the success St. Louis had I think we are going to see several offer sheets around the league this year and Peterka could be one of them. What KA does with it who knows. 1 Quote

So you're saying running multipage threads on players wanting out due to their reactions after they score might be a waste of time? That said, I remember UPL doing a Finnish interview where he seemed unhappy and didn't like being called UPL. Do you think we can lay into the UPL thing a little harder? I figure we can upgrade from him with a 37yo journeyman, and keep the $5 million a season for a new paint job in the arena. Quote

dudacek Posted April 3 Report Posted April 3 (edited) Article in the Athletic on how many NHL people are expecting this to be a summer of offer sheets. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6250562/2025/04/03/nhl-free-agency-offer-sheets-offseason/ It contains this snippet: Peterka will draw lots of trade interest this offseason if the Sabres can’t get a new contract finalized. And if he’s not re-signed by July 1, there’s no doubt he would be an enticing offer-sheet candidate. Allan Walsh happens to be his agent, but out of respect for the Sabres, his client and the process, he wouldn’t comment specifically about that situation. “But I have talked to general managers generally about offer sheets this summer, and some general managers have said to me — one in particular (said), ‘My goal this summer is to do an offer sheet,’” Walsh said. The only question to me here is whether JJ is legitimately interested in moving on, or this is just his agent setting the table for Adams to overpay the man. Edited April 3 by dudacek Quote

We know he’s actually good so I’d rather overpay than lose him. We’d just be looking for another JJ Peterka for the top 6 when we already need help there and if we don’t want to wait on someone young (the actual plan), we’d have to overpay for the devil you don’t, anyways. If there’s a hockey trade to be made that’s an option, too. I don’t think he’ll be signed to an offer sheet and if so I doubt it’s some huge Vanek like overpay, teams won’t be able to afford that. Could be an overpay in line with what we are probably already looking at 1 Quote
DarthEbriate Posted April 3 Report Posted April 3 The issue of not spending money (saving it for this offseason) is that now the winners can come along and do some shopping on your players that are ready. Throw in Armstrong’s success with the Blues offer sheets last season, and be prepared for either high overpays, or forced trades because “they don’t want to be here”. Quote

I've figured it all out! We'll tell the fans that there might be a little suffering, but that it's OK because this is the only way to get top talent, and we think we know a little more about palm trees than them. So. Remember when you wanted to tank for McJesus? Right. So, hear me out... tank for McKenna! We convince all our RFAs to sign offer sheets -- and then we take the picks. We'll have a couple more firsts, seconds, and thirds. We'll make an infographic about it. Then, we sign Irwin to $4M to get to the floor -- I call it "The Meszaros Maneuver". We finish last: Boom, McKenna." Darth Pegulas the Wise (DPW): Is it... Economical? GMKA: Oh, very much so. DPW: Tanking twice... is it... legal? GMKA: I'll make it legal. DPW: I like it. It's like poetry. It rhymes. Do it. GMKA: And don't worry. There's no chance Pittsburgh would win a draft lottery over us. DPW: What was that? GMKA: Nothing! Nothing. 1 Quote

Just rampant speculation based off an agent posturing in the media. JJ will sign here for $6 mill me thinks. 1 Quote

Ummmm, he has had discussions with a different GM about a player under contract. I get the agent did not mention JJP directly and I don’t know if this quote was taken out of context, but if said during the discussion of JJP, it’s implied he’s talking about him. What this agent did is what all agents do. I'll also add that organizations also have "informal" nondisclosure conversations with agents to see what the agent is thinking in regard to his client/s. Purity is theoretical and not regularly practiced in the real world of sports and business. Quote
Porous Five Hole Posted April 3 Report Posted April 3 Relevant to this convo about offer sheets are the numbers. Here are the most likely tiers and draft compensation: $4,580,917 - $6,871,3741 1st-round pick, 1 3rd-round pick $6,871,374 - $9,161,8341 1st-round pick, 1 2nd-round pick, 1 3rd-round pick I think you instantly match anything for JJP in either tier. The Sabres can offset cap by bringing up a plethora of Amerks prospects to offset. It may mean moving other guys, but the Sabres are not susceptible to an impossible to match scenario. Quote
