At this point I prefer to stay in the basement and get a top 5 pick.

I want them to win, but it might not make a difference.  They might try and still finish bottom 3/4.  Schedule is brutal.

UPL is broken.

First goal he gets beat cheating towards a pass when his D-man is in perfect position taking that away on a 2-on-1 and his job is to take the shooter.

He gets beat short side which should NEVER happen on that play.

Do your freaking job and stop trying to do someone else's!

His positioning is abysmal. He needs to go down to the AHL and work on that badly.

Quinn and JJ playing pretty loose right now. Seems to suit Quinn this time of the year to pick up his game when things are free n easy. If he was playing like this earlier in the season JJ would have benefited from that also as would the team. Hindsight sucks. Sure hope the kids grow up soon.

One issue I had with him 2 seasons ago was his lateral quickness was really bad. It seemed to improve by leaps and bounds last year, but he looks glacially slow at times this year. Seems like a mental/confidence thing to me. Last year he was confident in his movement and recovered quickly when he needed to adjust or recover; this season he seems to be really hesitant and it's making him sloooooow.

Sabres now winless in 10 without the captain.

As if we needed more evidence of Kevyn Adams failures, just think of where they would be without the two key players on the team he didn't acquire.

Botterill tore it down to the studs for Dahlin

Not really. Much less than what Adams did. ROR wanted out remember. There was no option there, and he got the guy who is now our top line scorer.

It’s a quote from Botterill at the time lol

we absolutely did not have to trade ROR stop rewriting history. He expressed disappointment. No trade request, even. enough of that bogus narrative.

its one of the worst deals we’ve ever made. We dealt ROR exactly when Eichel came off his ELC and actually got good. Setting back the timeline WILLINGLY, *again*, which is ALWAYS our issue

“we got Thomson” is putrid logic. You can’t just ignore all context in a trade and the aspects of team building and time. Come on now. That trade directly led to the dispatch of the Eichel and Reinhart core. And as mentioned: failing logic. If we dealt Tage Thompson right now for a draft pick and the pick became Draisaitl in 5 years does that make it a good trade?

No that's bs.

You can't blame Botterill for Adams trading Eichel and Reinhart. That's some weird logic there.

As for ROR when a guy says he's lost his love and the owner doesn't want to pay his big bonus the player gets dealt and the team loses no matter what.

Bottom line is there's a long long list of mistakes and bad moves from each and every one of the GMs and also the poor coaching choices and the lack of spending and everything else about this stupid stupid franchise.

and most of all there's no sense that it'll be any better next year either.

Both GMs own it

The BN has a story implying that UPL could overcome the numerous errors the Sabres made, especially once they tied it up and took a lead.   I missed the second period but the Sabres looked bad in the game re-cap (highlights).

UPL is not making nearly enough big saves, no doubt about it.   His positioning is poor, rebound control bad, his confidence looks shot.  But the entire team defense is terrible too.  One game without Dahlin and you see the weaknesses in Bryson, Samuelsson, and Byram.    Let’s not leave out the forwards who are slow getting back and who constantly lose puck battles.

They can’t trade and fire all the players, but it’s far past the time to look at the coaches and the guy that built this roster.

If the owner doesn't come to the same obvious conclusion about the sycophantic GM that everyone else has, then where do we go from there? Our reticent owner made the odd GM selection because he presented the owner with a cheaper rebuilding strategy, something the owner desired. There is an unsurprising futility the stubborn owner created by hiring an ill-equipped person to oversee the hockey operation. It seems that the owner is resistant to fire his GM because it would be an acknowledgement of his own poor judgment, something that is known to everyone else.

It's obvious that the goaltending has been a major factor in this team's lack of success. And it's obvious that the roster construction is poorly assembled. When it gets to the point that the owner is willing to allow the same person who put together this mismatched group, then where do you go from there? It makes no sense to me. Isn't a generation of failure long enough before the owner demonstrates a willingness to hire someone who is capable to take over the hockey operation and get this derailed product back on track? Until the ridiculously hardheaded billionaire owner comes to his senses, then this franchise will continue to flail. When watching the Sabres on a regular basis one gets the same sensation: it's the same shiiiit over and over. My contempt for this owner grows as each game concludes. Stupidity on steroids!
