Sabres sign Goalie Prospect Topias Leionon to 3 year ELC

This means Scott Ratzlaff, Leionon and Levi will be eligible for Rochester next season.  Hopefully one of the former is in Jacksonville, but knowing Adams they will run with UPL and Levi in Buffalo next year

I doubt Leinonen every becomes a full time NHL goalie.

If it was me, I'd flip UPL, pick up a mid-tier guy.

Sign Reimer or someone like him in the veteran insurance role.

And let Levi steal their crease if he's good enough.

Raztlaff and Leinonen can fight to earn their ice time.

But why pivot when things are going so well?

As for Leinonen. Of course this is what you do when you invest a 2nd-round pick in a goalie and he is coming off a good season.

Whether he should have been drafted is irrelevant. It's about whats best for the team right now.

Meh, you never know. Goalies are weird. He could still be good. 

I'm almost certain Adams goes with UPL Levi in Buffalo next year. Reimer re-signed and another 3 goalie scene? Maybe. But Adams still has his hopes set on Levi.

Del Belluz was the consensus choice at 41 that year between the analytics and scouting staff, someone convinced Adams to pick Leinonen instead just before they went on the clock

No offense, but “consensus choice at 41” has to be one of the most obscure and pointless factoids I’ve ever heard. I’m not so sure such a thing even exists. I can’t even think of a funny analogy for this one. Maybe something like @DarthEbriate already used up all the well know characters for his latest Star Wars reference, so he had to go with whatever background character Cliff Claven played in Empire.

As in, Belluz was the highest ranked player on the Sabres board, but they went off the board, to the surprise of most of their in-house staff.

LGR says he knows for a fact it was Forton's call but he got mad at me when I asked for his source.

Levi is doing well in Rochester, but watching some of those games I still don't think he's going to succeed in the NHL.  Makes the athletic save but gives up too many softies.   Hope he proves me wrong.
