Are there major changes coming this summer and who will make them?

Sabres makeover

  1. 1. What do you think is the most likely scenario this summer?

    • Kevyn Adams mostly stays the course, with typical mid-roster and assistant coaching moves
    • Adams makes several changes, with some big names being moved in and/or out
    • A new GM/POHO will be brought in to guide any makeover, with Adams being fired, or shuffled into a hands-off role.

Are most of you resigned to more of the same?

Or does Pegula’s presence on the road trip mean something?

As in:

  • He is considering replacing Adams and wanted to spend more time around the team to get a sense of where it is?
  • He is considering Adams’ plan for fixing this and wanted to spend more time around the team to get a sense of where it is?
  • The yacht is being painted and Beane and McDermott requested some quiet time before they presented him with their draft board.

As I’ve said before, it is hard to remember an NHL team that has charted the same path as the Sabres have over the past two years and didn’t make major changes.

That's what a normally run franchise would do. It's sad to say that the Sabres are not a normally run franchise. KA has been at the helm for five years. His middling work is evident. What's tolerated here is not tolerated with most sport franchises in all pro sports. That's why this franchise has been flailing for a generation.

You are 100% spot on but if fear they are the Sabres... its hard to find a team that cant make the playoffs in 14 years when half the league makes it and we get to draft high every year... the incompetence literally knows no bounds... they are probably thrilled with their progess towards the basement this year...  nothing changes... they are gonna do what they do every year... put lipstick on a pig.

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but I'm coming back around to the idea that Terry is finally going to punt Adams.  After all the team has regressed the last 2 seasons despite Adams pronouncement that the playoff are now the objective and all the changes he has made.  Norris possibly being out for the rest of the season might be the last straw for Adams.

As to the roster, other than Reimer, the entire roster is under contract or control for next season.

Forwards Norris, TNT, Tuch, Zucker, Greenway, Lafferty, Krebs, Malenstyn, Benson and Kulich are under contract, with McLeod, Quinn, JJP and Kozak as RFAs.  That's 14 players for 13 slots with guys like Östlund and Rosen pushing from below.

Defenders (and I use that term loosely with this bunch) Power, Dahlin, Samuelsson, Clifton, and Bryson are under contract with Bernard-Docker and Byram as RFAs.

UPL is also under contract and Levi is an RFA.

SIgn all the RFAs and you have complete 23 man roster and a non-playoff team that is spending to the cap.  I project the 7 RFAs to cost about 24 mill next season.  Add that to the current contracts plus Skinner's dead money and you get a cap number of $96,293,015.  Projected cap is 95.5 for next year.

Is running this back really worth being a max cap team?  Something has to give.

What do I want? A complete gutting of the organization from the top-down. FO fired. Coaching staff fired into the sun. Bring in an experienced POHO to hire an experienced GM and makeover the roster and hire a new staff.

What do I think will happen? Not much. Adams stays the course and only makes a couple of minor additions like the past couple of summers.

This is not a serious hockey organization. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Guelli will save us. He will convince Terry that although major management/coaching changes won't likely change the short term trajectory of the franchise, they will rejuvenate the fan base. After all, this is supposed to be entertainment, not a study in hockey management theory that needs x seasons for results to be valid.

I went with the first option since the only thing that matters to Pegula is the Bills success right now. Which is weird b.c if the Sabres were good it would bring in more revenue. I dont think Pegula knows enough about the NHL anymore to be able to make a good decision with GM change.

Pegula still thinks he's the smartest guy in the room and that everything is fine (despite the overwhelming evidence against).  No confidence that the ownership will make any changes....GMKA stays and little else happens.  I hope season ticket sales plummet.

This feeling surrounding the Sabres is 1 million times worse than the lowest point of the Bills 17 year drought. There is absolutely no end in sight on this one, none.

The only thing that keeps me resolute in these endless dark times is your unwavering faith and steadfast optimism.

I just can’t see the status quo. Adams gets punted or is given some made up title position outside the hockey dept.

Shanahan is signed as President after Leafs go out early and he is not brought back.  He brings in a seasoned GM who bumps Lindy upstairs with him and hires the head coach of Denver U after another Frozen Four championship.😝

Botterill got 3 years, Adams will get 5 and the next GM of the Sabres Jerry Forton will get 7

At least Forton has been assistant GM unlike Adams who was VP of business administration for like a year before getting promoted to GM.
