GASabresIUFAN Posted March 20 Report Posted March 20 (edited) Why? Just Why? I'm very proud of Adams for locking up another 5 pair D. The rate this guy is going he's going to be the worst player in NHL history to reach 1000 games. They'll all be with the Sabres and he'll never play in the playoffs. Big Guava Posted March 20 Report Posted March 20 Good depth to have, but better as a 7th D-man that can fill in spot duty. 1 Quote
SABRES 0311 Posted March 20 Report Posted March 20 I mean he’s not the worst DMan in the history of the NHL. He’s serviceable and cheap. Now if he is in the starting lineup next year I might be worried but for the rest of this year, whatever. Quote
pastajoe Posted March 20 Report Posted March 20 Now trade him during the summer as part of a package for a top 6 forward or top 4 defenseman. 1 Quote
Brawndo Posted March 20 Author Report Posted March 20 The only two current defenseman on the Sabres Roster who do not have contracts for next season are Byram and Bernard Docker, both are RFAs. Running it back for the three year in a row has to work this time right?!!? Quote
PerreaultForever Posted March 20 Report Posted March 20 900k is kind of like your journeyman depth guy and if you have better guys you don't give a crap when you waive him. I would rather we gave that contract to a Gilbert type guy but for KA I guess Bryson is a sure thing he can check off his list rather than hunting for a guy in free agency. League minimum would be a better number but whatever. Quote

Point was made smartly on twitter that there’s no real issue with deal but also no reason to do it so soon: ie they don’t care about opportunity cost, as the tweet explained. I agree with the tweet’s conclusion that it likely means we won’t be doing much. Would repost but it’s protected. 11 minutes ago, Brawndo said: The only two current defenseman on the Sabres Roster who do not have contracts for next season are Byram and Bernard Docker, both are RFAs. LTS Posted March 20 Report Posted March 20 I don't read this as the Sabres not doing much in the off-season (not that Adams provides any reason to believe otherwise). Bryson at $900k is harmless. He's not the worst defender on the team so it's good to have him around. I believe there will be changes in the off-season. I mean, there's no harm in believing it. It's not like it makes me any more likely to spend energy or money on this team until something changes. I'd rather believe they will do something than not. If I get to that point I won't be here even. 2 Quote

He's a big sappy puddle just like Terry where he believes in the room and loyalty to his guys and trust and it's all of us blah blah blah. Dude is basically a mushy dad coaching all his kids. 1 Quote

dudacek Posted March 20 Report Posted March 20 If you struggle to attract free agents from elsewhere, signing your own at least protects an asset and covers your ass from the potential for having to replace Greenway, Zucker and Bryson with, say, Craig Smith, Tanner Pearson and Kale Clague? That’s all I got 🤷. Any big changes this summer were and still are always going to be about trades. Quote
Hawerchuk Posted March 20 Report Posted March 20 Bryson is a excellent skater. What else he is, I don't know? Quote

GoPuckYourself Posted March 20 Report Posted March 20 Kind of makes sense, a mediocre GM re-signs a mediocre defensemen. 1 1 1 Quote
sabresouth Posted March 20 Report Posted March 20 Good grief. We shouldn't be signing players you can't see on a playoff contending team. I guess that's why we resigned him.🤮😠😤 Quote
DarthEbriate Posted March 20 Report Posted March 20 (edited) Several thoughts on this one: 1. He's Chad Ruhwedel. Ruhwedel eventually won a Cup, which is cool. But the Penguins also sent him down at the start of almost every season and no one claimed him because no one needed a tweener because they all have their own. Aha, but!... 2. He's a Sabre, so he's never sent down. Bryson has already skated 248 career NHL games. At this rate, he'll have 500 career NHL GP. That seems... high... for an 8D-9D guy. 3. 2 hours ago, Carmel Corn said: Makes me wonder where Ryan Johnson fits into their future plans? Yup. But then I got thinking how Adams would think... 4. No blockers. GM Sheevyn says: "They can't say we gifted Johnson a roster spot, because we had Bryson blocking him." Then, he smiles smugly. 5. But is it really a blocker if it's Bryson and he's waived, unclaimed, and plays in Rochester? 6. Or, if Bryson remains in the top 7 (meaning he'll play 40 games again next year)... does that allow them to re-sign Byram to a nice 7x$7M contract? 7. He'll be one year older next season. And at age 28, that'll be dragging the mean age up into "2nd youngest team in the league" territory. Edited March 20 by DarthEbriate Quote
