GDT: Buffalo Sabres @ Utah, yes Utah 3/20/25 MSG and radio--9 PM

The GM who is the architect of the post Jack rebuild is sitting next to the owner in a suite in Utah. If the owner isn't asking himself and his self-selected GM why are we inhabiting the bottom of the league after half a decade of rebuilding based on your lower cost blueprint that you proposed to me? Whether the Sabres would have won last night or not is irrelevant. When you compare this team to the upper echelon teams, we are out of their class. When you compare this team to the low-end teams in the league, we are barely struggling to keep up.

The person who needs to face the ugly reality is the owner, himself, who has destroyed a franchise through his own malfeasance, and what's even worse is that he has withered the fanbase to a fraction of what it was when he took over.

The stubborn owner needs to sell, or if he won't, he needs to get serious about hiring qualified people to run the hockey franchise. The reticent owner is an arsonist who burned down a hockey franchise because he lacks the self-awareness to recognize how incompetent he is as an owner. He ought to be ashamed of himself. I'm so tired of him.

I still cannot believe that happened.  On a delayed penalty they score on themselves.  Oh my, the highest levels of incompetence flow from top to bottom in this organization.

Deportitis from Ottawa

The reviews of that Cozens/Norris trade said Norris was a better talented offensive player but was injury prone.

He played 3 games and we haven’t seen him since.

I spent one night in Salt Lake City back in 1981, on my way to California via Reno and Tahoe.  The food was bland and there was nothing to do.

I was there back in I think ‘84.  Their alcohol laws were weird.  We went to a bar and they couldn’t sell you alcohol but would sell you the setup.  You had to buy your alcohol elsewhere and bring it in.

So, there’s nicely dressed women walking around with brown paper bags with bottles of liquor.

It was a pretty entertaining game.  There were lots of Sabres that did some things for stretches of time that gave me cause to think that a good hockey person could get this on the right path fairly quickly.  And, we lost, again, in a rather embarrassing fashion; so, there is at least, maybe, a small possibility that the accumulative impact is that Pegula has had enough and opts to make the needed changes.  I never want the Sabres to lose, but in times like this there is at least a silver lining in defeat.

Predictable.

The Bills went 17 years without a playoff. Now look at them.

The Bills also didn't trade Josh Allen to Minnesota after his 2nd season for Stefon Diggs, Sean Mannion, and a couple draft picks.

Exactly. There are so many differences that there is no comparison

Pegula is on the trip? That is interesting. Wonder if he wanted to see Utah or if he actually is focused on what a clusterf&ck the team is and is looking for real answers.

Yes.  I joined a "club" or something like that to get a beer.   Back in 1981, I was just out of college and I drank beer but never really messed much with booze or wine.

Things were so different then.

If the owner doesn’t understand the clusters…k that he created years ago, he ought to get back on his gargantuan yacht and sail away. I’d so freaking tired of this arsonist!
