What are your suggestions for new recruits (on the playing side) this summer?

for me:

Sam Bennett

Aaron Ekblad if they don’t re-up with the cats.

Jonathan Drouin

Fantasy Land:

Marner

Marchand for a year

I haven't really put much thought into the list of who is available, But Marner is the only one that I think I'd really 'pay up' for.

Of course the team could use some toughness and fiestyness in the form of Bennett.  I wouldn't go there though if it turns into a bidding war, I don't think he really is all that good of a player positionally, and that is an area the Sabres need to get much better in, especially from their forwards.

So your solution to a team that allows 4 goals a game is to add more offense?  The team is 12th in the NHL in GF and 3rd in 5 on 5 scoring.  Maybe the problem is on defense and in goal?

2 new defenders, preferably 1 right shot at minimum.

1 new top 6 forward, preferably gritty AF.

1-2 new bottom 6 forwards, preferably gritty AF.

1 new GM

1 new Special Teams coach

1 new Defensive coach

New GM and a restructured front office to include an experienced POHO to keep Terry far away from operations (no more locker room pep talks). Would love a fresh coaching staff purged of internal nepotism hires.

From there, let them evaluate the roster and make some moves to improve the soft spots, of which there are several.

1. New Owner

2. New GM

3. New coaching staff

4. 4 new defenseman, including 2 stay at home D who can play in the top 6.

5.  A top 6 playmaking center so that TNT can move to the wing and we don't force Kulich to carry the 2nd line.

6.  A 1B goalie who can split time with UPL.

Imagine if we'd kept those guys? We'd have one of the biggest D's in the league. Not to say their D is perfect, far from it, but it is something we lack desperately.

I have a hard time with these wish list posts because sure I'd love a Sam Bennett etc. but I know damn well I'm not going to get one.

The crazy thing is that it's taken them both going onto other teams to being positive players

I said it as a joke but the reality is it might be a good solution.  Especially if reports of Risto turning into a good stay at home dman under Torts are true.
I've watched very little of Philly so I'm just going on hearsay

Dahlin Byrum

Power Risto

Zadorov. JBD

Clifton

I wouldn't say Risto is "good" but he's certainly competent second pairing.

Let's not forget Brayden McNabb though. The D in shambles starts there.

So if you have a different team and you have McNabb and McCabe along with Zadorov and Risto, well it's just a whole different thing isn't it?

Would Brayden McNabb not have been the perfect veteran D partner for Power? The franchise has made a lot of mistakes.

1. First line center: Use this year’s first round pick.

Alt: Quinn or Kulich and a second with a prospect.

2. Second pair quality stay at home DMan: Use Muel and a high end prospect to get him.

3. Third pair DMan. The meaner the better.

Peterka-New Guy-Thompson

Zucker-Norris-Tuch

Greenway-Kulich/McLeod-Benson/Quinn

Malenstyn-Krebs-Kozak/UFA/Rosen

Dahlin-Byram

Power-New Guy

Clifton-New Guy

Absolutely not. Risto kinda sucks and Zadorov is a man child.

You are basing it off the Sabres version of Risto or the Flyers version of Risto?

here is Brière taking about him

-----

Performance and Value: Brière praised Ristolainen’s contributions, stating, “Risto has been so good…we finally have him healthy, we finally have him playing extremely well.” He emphasized the difficulty in finding right-shot defensemen who play as physically as Ristolainen, highlighting his importance to the team’s defense.

I would be talking up a lemon if I might want to sell it in the near future.

Neverr forgett McNabb!

I love these kinds of thought experiments. It'd be a good long-form exploration. But if it's the case, I'm guessing we don't get Dahlin, and I'm not sure McNabb survives two separate expansion drafts. But it'd be fun to explore in a thread....  hmmmm.

Maybe I'll take a weekend and think about this.
