Sabres call up Bret Murray and Isak Rosen

Murray is not a goon but he will throw the gloves off once in awhile. I think if he hits the ice he is just here to play hockey. He has improved his AHL game each of the last 2 years. He is 26 which is about as prime age wise as he can get. Like most veteran AHL call ups if things go well he will give us 10 good games before the reality of NHL grind catches up with him. He is at least a big net front presence so I would expect that much from him. He is the first call up this year that will have to clear waivers to go back. They don't have to send him back at all now that the trade deadline is past. I am certainly not going to hold the 19 games he played 3 years ago against him. I am curious to see him.

That's my point.  If he wants any chance at a job in NHL , he needs to go out of his usual role

Kulich was slightly low coming out of the turn but not really leaning or stretching forward, I cannot even say his head was down.  He was also being pushed in the back by #15 on Vegas. The hit was was reckless, Howden turned to his side and contacted his head first, he is out of control.  That is my judgement. 

Player safety?  Who is responsible for it?  The leagues inaction says they are not.  So we should see more of these legal hits, right?

And as I watched the replay over a few times, I feel he either drove through the defenseless player where he loses his balance or was actually leaving his feet.

Who was out on the ice at the time? Kulich, Krebs, Quinn, Clifton and Power.....NOT EXACTLY MONSTERS OF THE MIDWAY 🤣

Would Howden have done that with Greenway out there? Hard to say....

I guess my take is going to be unpopular to you three, but what responsibility does Kulich have to bear for having his head down at the level of someone else’s hip? Like, yea, dude could have laid up knowing Jiri was vulnerable, but that isn’t a dirty hit.  While there was clearly contact to the head, I don’t believe Howden was targeting Jiri’s head at all. It just happened the way it did.
 

Rookie-level awareness by our guy. in the AHL, he beats the pursuit clean and is ready for Howden.

It sucks and I hope he’s OK.  

I agree i thought it was a clean hit, Kulich actually lowered himself which I have no clue why anyone would do that but maybe it was just a weird reaction to brace himself for impact.

He lowered his head because he lost the puck and was reaching for it.

I still say it was a dirty hit that could have been avoided. Others disagree. Go hockey. When Sabres do that, they get kicked out of games.

But he's TALL! All tall players are pounding bruisers who fight everyone and hit everything. They are the grittiest, toughest, meanest players! I have been told that for years around here, are you saying it isn't true!?!?!?

Cool. He's gonna have 1 or 2 chances a game at best to stand in front of the net and hope his other 4th line buds get a puck through. He's not skilled enough to use him as a net front on a PP and he isn't fast enough to use him as a winger on the other 3 lines. Glad Murray gets a 4th line chance.
