I want my wings to do what he did in my own zone...but I think good defense starts by your wingers preventing the puck from transitioning into your zone to begin with.  Not only that, but he was in position where at one point he was 1 1/2 strides behind Debrincat. He could have and should have distrupted that play before it even crossed the Buffalo blue line.

No he wouldn't. The puck comes out of the corner, Quinn closes on the carrier, who puts it to the winger on the boards. That's not Quinns guy. He's also not responsible for that guy cutting to the center.

I just want 2 things out of him.  Go to the net in the offensive zone more and skate harder when getting back into the D-zone.

Even if he's not scoring a goal every other game, if I see him do that I'll be happy with his game for the time being.

With a full roster, if you sit Quinn you play Lafferty.  I guess that sends a message.

UPL has absolutely not been consistent this year — a lot of us think this is more on how bad the defense has been and frequently out of position they are — but I think everyone does agree that overall he has not been consistent enough. 

However, I constantly see people say that he never makes big saves or good saves. He does. Basically every single game he makes two or three huge saves including tonight already. Our defense is horrendous. I think it also needs to be factored in how much having such a poor defense that’s so often out of position can wear on a goalie mentally over the course of a season.

As the season has gone on,  he’s let in more easy goals. I think we need to give him somewhat of a break while also acknowledging that our goaltending does need to be better. I’m still very optimistic with UPL and Levi coming up. Reimer has also been a good backup.

And in terms of defense....his positioning isn't good but it is better than Cozens.  Too many times he is just gliding out there, he's a step late too a loose puck or a step late to disrupting a shot.  

It may be a low bar me wanting to see him go to the net more and to skate harder, but I think those 2 things cure much of what has been bad about the results when he is on the ice this year.

Cozens I was done with. Effort was not the problem with Cozens it was other things.  With Quinn, I think he's pretty close to being what you want him to be with just a couple small changes.

Yeah, maybe. I just don't see much of an effort from him most nights. That's a desire thing.

Fair enough....but before this season started the team preached "accountability".  Playing poorly with no consequences seems to mock the notion of holding players accountable.
