Right handed D man

Instead of discussing the need for a top 4 right handed D man in the abstract it's time to identify who might be available and discussing at what It might cost us. An interesting article in Yardbarker showed up where Lou Lamoriello is talking about a retool and a need to get younger over all. The article goes on to speculate that 3 D  men might be available for a trade. The 2 right handers mentioned are Noah Dobson and Adam Pelech. Dobson is 25 and an RFA but is projected to get a huge contract. Projections are an 10 mil by 8 year contract. The only way that would work is if Power goes the other way which would kind of defeat the idea of getting a righty to play beside him in the first place. 

Adam Pelech checks a lot of boxes. at 30 years old he has 4 years left at 5.75 Mil per year. I can't say I have watched his play over the years but according to NHL edge he still has speed and a hard shot, certainly experienced. He has a limited no trade list but unknown if we are on it or not. The question is what do you give up for a guy like that? To be honest there are not a lot of options out there for this type of player.

RE: Islander d-men, Pelech is, I think, a LHD. Pulock and Mayfield are RHD, but both have full No Trades. I think we will need to look elsewhere.

I am all in on Dobson, as I mentioned in another thread. He has an offensive side that makes Power a perfect player to trade away. And it is so much easier to find a LHD stay at home than a RHD.

It’s too bad that we have what I already thought was a stay at home LHD in Muel.  He’s just garbage period

Agree, it was a big gamble from Adams to rely on Muel to stay healthy and play the way he did for some time two seasons ago. It did not pay out well.

My preferred targets would be Whitecloud or Jordan Spence. I think Spence is a guy you could trade for. Whitecloud, would take more prying. Pelech is an interesting option for a couple of years. If I went after Pelech I would cast around for another up and coming RHD just to have someone else around for when Pelech ages out.

Whitecloud is on top of my list also if we go for the stay at home RHD.

Other with question marks:

Can Toronto afford to keep Carlo If they decide to keep Marner? What happens with Canes if they get a first round exit, can Walker or Chatfield get available? Is Hawks Connor Murphy good enough to play on the second pair on a team that are serious about taking a playoff spot? Devils have four RHD under contract and Nemec has not been happy with the situation, are they willing to trade him?

Yep, I got mixed up between Pelech and Pulock.

So Pulock seems like he would be a target. He is 30 with 5 more years at 6.15 M per year. If Lou wants to get younger he is more likely to deal him than Dobson. But there is a no trade clause and what the return would look like? Still has good NHL edge metrics. Certainly a solid player as far as I can tell.

The Sabres need 2 top 4 stay at home D.  A LHD works with Dahlin as he prefers to play RD anyway.  We then need a RHD stay at home D to play with Byram or Power as one of them is likely to be traded this offseason to save cap space and to remove one expensive piss poor blueliner who can't play defense.

I don't think Vegas will move off of Whitecloud. He is cheap and has term. You do have some interesting candidates. There are not many so called proven UFA right handers out there. Cody CeCi being the main one. Not sure how I fell about him. The Oilers kind of ran him off. Evan Bouchard is an RFA for the Oilers but they are not going to let him go without a fight. Then you get into mostly real old guys or very young ones.

They've already got Dahlin who can play the right side, Bernard-Docker files for arbitration and then gets a 2-year extension, and Clifton. Ryan Johnson as a 7 who can play on either side.
