The opportunity to share in that kind of joy is one of the biggest reasons I love sports.

Embrace it every chance you get.

A stat I heard today that I think goes against the conventional wisdom of the importance of the later rounds.

from 2021 till 2023, out of the 685 players drafted after the first round, only 20 have made a pro bowl.

During that same time, 25 of the 95 players drafted in the first round have made at least one pro bowl.

20 out of 685

It may be a long shot to get a pro bowler but they need to fill holes.  Bishop and Carter last year should have been those guys.  Maybe they’ll pop this season.  The Bills may need them to.  The Bills have been resourceful finding guys in the mid rounds they can plug in situationally.  They’ll probably need some D line production from whoever they take today.

Interesting, certainly the impact players tend to be first rounders but every round can uncover a Hall of Fame player.  Tom Brady was a 6th rounder

Lots of excellent players that are starters, or play a lot of situational reps, don’t make a pro bowl.

I think the Bills trade up from 56.  To take who…. I’m not sure.

Maybe to get the big DT from Toledo.

Terrible trade, for a guy overwhelmingly projected to go mid 3rd. Why on earth would you give up 2 late 2nd round assets? We have three 5h rounders and two 6ths we could have moved up the board multiple moves. And the player selected isn’t even considered beyond a 1 technique player? WTF? Make it make sense.

You're only moving back 10 spots to move up 15 with those 2nd round picks.

Buffalo moves up from 56 to 41

Buffalo moves down from 62 to 72

I’m in a group chat where right after the Bills made that trade, someone joked that they were trading up to take Sanders. It’s funny how that worked out.

Guess they wanted him 🙂

I don’t disagree. I believe you need to uncover some gems to be successful and sustainable. I also don’t put much stock in pro bowl selection. I just thought the stat was interesting and maybe a foretell that NFL scouting has gotten better in large part because of the information available. Of course, I could be reading way too much into it.🤷‍♂️

Sanders is a 3tech.

Beane presser explains it. He's a interior strong 3 tech rather than massive NG type everyone projected Bills to take . Blowback.

Ourlads scouting service had him as #5 at DT with a late 1st and 2nd round grade. 4 guys rated ahead of him went high in the 1st round. The #6 guy ranked behind him was Williams of Ohio St. who went #29 overall right before we took our CB.

3rd round pick had a 2nd -3rd round grade.

IIRC correctly, Beane realizes he still needs to find a Jones backup in that NG mold. The highest ranked ones were all selected early.

Day 3 coming up.
