Actually surprised Gretzky is fairly low on this list: https://www.statmuse.com/nhl/ask/which-player-has-the-most-game-winning-goals-in-nhl-history To compare, here is list of ENG leaders. You don’t have to search long to see Gretzky’s name. https://www.statmuse.com/nhl/ask?q=nhl+empty+net+goals+leaders+all-time Edited Saturday at 08:36 PM by kas23 1 Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted Saturday at 09:14 PM Author Report Posted Saturday at 09:14 PM The amazing thing is that while the era was tougher on scorers because of the straight up goonery that happened. The goalie play in the Gretzky era was absolute dog water, there was next to zero positioning or styles. Ovie doing it now to me, is more impressive, considering 25% of his goals are where you expect him to be and he still blasts them in. Not sure this new record will fall anytime in our lifetime. 1 Quote
JohnC Posted Saturday at 09:49 PM Report Posted Saturday at 09:49 PM (edited) He will acknowledge his empty net goals. Gretzky also has plenty of goals with the net vacant. Ovie made a decision not to break the record with goalie pulled. And that’s what he did last night after scoring two goals. Edited Saturday at 09:50 PM by JohnC Quote

shrader Posted Saturday at 10:39 PM Report Posted Saturday at 10:39 PM My crazy stat of the day. Ovechkin has played 1486 games. Gretzky played 1487. I don’t know if Wayne scored in his last game, but it would be fun to see Ovechkin do it in the same number of games. Quote

Sidc3000 Posted 17 hours ago Report Posted 17 hours ago So do they scratch Ovi today so he can possibly score, against the Canes, at home? They only have two home games left. Quote
steveoath Posted 16 hours ago Report Posted 16 hours ago Nah. Every goal he gets now is a record. Quote
OverPowerYou Posted 16 hours ago Report Posted 16 hours ago Do you think islanders season ticket holders started their year thinking they might be there to watch history ? Although, on the wrong side of history Quote
Wyldnwoody44 Posted 12 hours ago Author Report Posted 12 hours ago This Ovi cam has got to go, I get it's the record but seeing only half the game while half my screen is just him on the bench isn't ok Quote
steveoath Posted 11 hours ago Report Posted 11 hours ago Just a thought. What would nhl look like if the caps had taken Malkin and the pens got Ovi?? Quote

That’s like asking what would have happened if the Oilers took Eichel and the Sabres got McDavid. It was never a possibility. 1 Quote

steveoath Posted 11 hours ago Report Posted 11 hours ago And there it is. Congrats Ovi. What a moment. Quote

Wyldnwoody44 Posted 10 hours ago Author Report Posted 10 hours ago I can't remember a game ever stopped in the 2nd for something like this. Pretty cool. Who has a chance to break this? I can't think of anyone currently that has a shot Quote
