No one is paying a billion dollars for the Sabres to keep them in Buffalo. You might as well be saying 'move the team!'

More cost overruns with the new football stadium . Already sold 20 % of that team to raise $ and still needs more $, according to local news.  A new reality.

I think we are in the middle of an end of season collapse, no?

Players not responding to coaching is a problem and hard to comprehend. Especially when you have an icon like Lindy Ruff. Maybe Lindy just doesn't give a crap anymore? Maybe he's finally given up trying to understand how to coach younger players?

Like I said, nothing Adams did at the deadline precludes changes being made. Ruff needs to retire and the rest of the coaching staff needs an overhaul. Adams got more time than most GMs to turn the bus around. Maybe you at least look at Karmanos and Leone.

Are the Sabres in the middle of a collapse? I can't say. That in itself is a testament to their inconsistent and erratic play. What is the owner going to do? Who knows? He doesn't publicly speak. That in itself is weird. There are plenty of platitudes that his PR staff can prepare for him to say or allow someone else to say on his behalf. Is the owner apathetic? Is he mad? Is he involved in the hockey decisions or not? Who knows! At least in the Wizard of Oz it is finally learned who was behind the curtain. Here, we don't know who or what is going on behind the scenes. It's an oddly run operation from an ownership standpoint.

I would be receptive to consider Karmanos and Leone for the key jobs in this flailing franchise. I doubt that it will happen because it makes too much sense for this oddly run franchise.

It's not weird that Terry doesn't speak in public. First off, he's terrible at it. Second, there's nothing he can say that would placate the fans. Also, tell me how often sports team owners address the public outside of regime changes? Almost never. So demanding Terry address the fans sounds great but is less than meaningless.

what?

This is just cringeworthy. He sounds like someone trying to convince themselves of keeping up with a new year’s resolution. Almost like a SNL skit.

Many NFL owners are selling non-voting stakes in their franchises.

Nobody likes and respects Ruff more than us longtimers, but I have to agree entirely. Lindy is coaching an entirely different player today than he was a generation ago. He still has a firm grip on the game and how it needs to be played imo, but his ability to get players to buy in appears lost. Time for new, younger blood from the top down, but I suspect Pegula doesn’t want to pay the price any longer. I mean how many ex-coaches, GMs, and players remained on the payroll after they were dismissed? I’ve lost track over the years.

Of course, Terry P is a terrible public speaker. That's evident to all. However, that doesn't mean that he can't communicate his feelings and intentions through surrogates. As far as owners of pro franchising expressing dissatisfaction about the failing state of their respective franchises, it happens all the time. It's the norm, not the exception. If they have to do it through surrogates, then they do so. It demonstrates to the fanbase that they are aware of the situation and that the status quo is unacceptable.

When a franchise has been flailing for a generation, the period when he bought the franchise, then there should be some expression and demonstration that he is attempting to remedy the situation. He hasn't done that. Not even the minimum. He bought a public product. What did he expect? The Wizard of Oz behind the curtain act? There is a responsibility that he at least communicates in some fashion that he is aware of what is going on and that he cares. This silent act makes no sense. I'm tired of this silent billionaire owner and the damage he has done to this franchise and hockey market. The situation and his odd silent behavior are ridiculous.

How does it work when you are owed money by another team? Are the Devils still paying all or part of Lindy's salary? Or did that go away when he accepted the Sabres job?

Terry spoke in years past. There's nothing else he can say. What your really asking for is a walk of shame ala Cersei Lannister in Game of Thorns.

Cost overages are estimated to make the revised cost for the stadium $2.2b, or $800m more than the original $1.4b. Pegula’s equity sale netted him over $1b, so even if he doesn’t access other streams to cover cost overruns, he’s still got $200m to put towards additional costs above that $2.2b. The Bills are seeking a $650m debt waiver from the league, which will assuredly be approved and the projected $225m in PSL sales is now expected to be revised upward. All of this means that the cost overages are already covered and then some. Pegula is simply not hard up for the money and doesn’t need to penny pinch the Sabres to cover his new stadium obligations.

If you want to fix a team you don't need to wait till the trade deadline, that's way to late for this season.

It's the biggest bluff of the year. I pretty much knew nothing would happen

There are offsets, so when a fired coach gets another HC job at a salary equal to or more than the one he was fired from, the team that fired him is off the hook. But fired coaches like Ralston, Nolan, Bylsma, Housley, Krueger, and Granato who don’t find such a new job and there is tenure still left on their deals, the Sabres continue to pay their full salaries or any difference in salary until their deals expire.

I never said he was hard up. @Night Train brought up the partial sale of the Bills.

What exactly is it you want Terry to do?

Hire an experienced hockey executive as the new POHO and let him have full authority to run the hockey operations.

I know, it was a follow-up to your response to Night Train. I was agreeing with you entirely. Apologies for any confusion.
