Today was step 1 and 2 in improving the  D in moving from Gilbert and Jokiharju

step 3 is Bryson

Clifton has to be 7/8 next season

can Bernard-Docker be part of the solution? I'm really low on Samuelsson but maybe he is on the bottom pair for the 50 \ 60 games he plays in next year

I fear that they see JBD as a top 4 RHD to pair with Power that we've been begging for

No, step 3 is Samuelsson

Step 4 is Byram

Ok so essentially nothing. Moving along

What a lousy pick that Nylander pick turned into.  Had to be traded for Joki just to get 4th rd value after a few seasons of play.  Credit to the GM that was able to move Nylander for anything of value.

I didn’t hate Joki.  He served a role.  Unfortunately, this team wasn’t well set up to absorb what he is.

I’m glad we got rid of some softies from this roster. I was not a fan of Jokiharju at all, we would have lost him for nothing so it doesn’t really matter what we got back in return but another example of how trash Adams is at evaluating talent.

This is the turning point of the entire Sabres organization

The turning point for some of us is when you find your wallet 😏

It may not seem like it, buts it has been 5 seasons.

One thing we learned based on the picks that were traded for D-men...  The Sabres' refusal to retain any salary impacted what they received for compensation. Retaining and moving Joker to a playoff-bound team early on would have netted a higher pick than waiting until the last second and dumping him to a deadline seller.

Unless I missed someone, by active rostered players games played in a Sabres uniform, it looks like they traded their 3rd (Jokiharju - 351) and 4th (Cozens 341) highest players. Dahlin leads with 489, TNT in second with 386.

How?

Jason Botterill acquired Jokiharju from Chicago for Alex Nylander back in 2019... which turned out to be an excellent deal for Buffalo.

My mistake that was Botterill not Adams but it still stands for Adams.

Nope. I want to add to the D not deplete

did you like  Byram and Dahlin together?

Power needs a talented RHD with a mean streak to play with. Not sure Adams can find that

I think this is where I'm a bit disappointed in Ruff. If he identified (rightly) that Cozens is not the answer, then... maybe move him to wing where he was solid for Team Canada. Ruff even said way early in the year if they couldn't handle the center duties, they'd play wing. TNT ended up on Kulich's wing. But Cozens got to stay at 2C and PP time forever, while McLeod was the one getting 4C time.

This move to wing would have been twofold: 1) it would showcase him for a trade either this week or over the summer, and 2) it probably makes the Sabres better all season long.

Good points. I never understood why Cozens stayed at C.  But I have to give Riff credit for giving Kulich a good look at C.

I think a Joker did a decent job, he often played up one pairing from where he should have.

He is only 25 and could I think be one of those long career consistent players down the road.  Not a star or difference maker, but a solid contributor.  I can’t believe Adams could not get a #2.  Pitiful work Kevyn.

Is this defense good enough? No, right.

So we had to move out 2 of Joki, Samuelsson, Byram and Power and a minimum. We moved one so far but I don't think Muel gets as much as Byram or Power. Can we move Byram for a forward or a rhd?

They desperately need a RHD to put with Power , I agree

They have a plethora of forwards , draft picks and prospects to get that

if you trade either power or Byram , if you get back another top 4 d, you still need one more   Where would that player come from?

Healthy scratch multiple times this year....I'm shocked he got a 4th.
