Thats why I think the Canucks would move him and I don’t trust UPL at all so I’d be willing to take a risk on Demko. Hope Demko bounces back and he can help bring Levi along. He only has a year left in his deal if it doesn’t work out.

Two of the last three yes, not sure where you’re getting 3 of 5. He’s been mostly healthy up until 22/23 going all the way back to his college days.

The injury he was recovering from this year was an odd one, and a red flag for sure.

But I think he’s far, far less of a risk than UPL, Levi, Reimer, Anderson, Comrie, or really any goalie Adams has acquired. Even with the injury, I doubt there are a dozen goalies Id rather have to start next season.

The Canucks aren’t counting on him. They re-signed Lankinen to cover their bases if he fails and to back up if he doesn’t. They have no incentive to trade him for Lukkonen, or really any one short of improving their roster elsewhere.

Earlier in the year there were a lot of reports that they were trying to attach Demko to EP in any potential move. He has one year left on his deal.

From Vancouver’s perspective they might see UPL as a goalie entering his prime that needs change of scenery compared to a guy who has been injured, has 1 year left of team control.

The Canucks already signed Lankinen to a 3-year deal as their plan if Demko doesn’t bounce back or isn’t coming back.

There’s a slim chance they might think UPL is a better option than one or both. There’s a better chance they watched all three goalies play. If they trade Demko this summer, it won’t be for a goalie coming off a bad year on a long-term starter’s contract.

As part of a deal to improve their roster elsewhere sure.

I can tell Sabres fans this. If we got EP and he continued to slump, they would lose their minds. On top of that, he shows very little regard for winning or losing. He seems the type that’s happy to play and not fret over the outcome.

That doesn’t sit well with me when you’re the fifth highest paid player in the league.

Oh I agree, it would take some major happening, but it depends on what NJ thinks too. Are they happy with what they have and where it's headed? They look like a team that'll be bounced quickly. If anyone can do this though it is Rutherford.

This is a player you'd have to pay $11.6M for the next 7 years. He was at the middle of a dressing room collapse. The fan base has turned on him. The coach and the front office have been very clear they are unhappy with him. He's been accused of poor training practices. He's coming off an injury that seems to have sapped his quickness. Oh, and there's that little thing about the 15-goal, 45-point season.

His value can't be any better than Jack Eichel's was in 2021. So Norris, Helenius, next year's 1st and this year's 2nd, give or take? I'd say less. The Norris/Byram package @Flashsabre proposed is 2 talented players just entering their primes that we know the Canucks like. That's probably your base right there and I think the Sabres would push for Willander for a lesser prospect to seal the deal.

I think the Canucks would take Power straight across in a heartbeat, but I doubt the Sabres would.

I think there's a very good case to be made for the Canucks to trade him for the highest draft pick offered and repurpose that $11.6M in cap space toward Mitch Marner or some other prominent free agent.

it's not "he's flawed" and "he will cost a ton if you are determined to buy him", it's "he's flawed" so "he won't cost a ton if the Canucks are determined to sell him."

But I agree, it's very much a buyer beware.

You may not be aware of it but you made a compelling case why the Sabres shouldn't acquire him even if the cost is a lot less. What makes me even more inflexible in my position is that you will be taking on a $11.6M contract with 7 more years on it. And let me add that if the Sabres should deal him for Power in a one-on-one deal. then the GM should be arrested for felonious malpractice. Again, a firm no on him. 

What I would instead like to add to the roster is another couple of Zuckers to this soft roster. And instead of taking on the large and extended contract for EP, you can get two rugged players to add juice to this flat roster.

Jack Hughes also has injury issues, but when he is healthy I think he is a better player than Pettersson, certainly one that is more of a 'game changer'.  And asking for his brother also? That is a heavy lift.

Obviously a bunch of first rounders, prospects, idk what they have in Vancouver. Pettersson's just the centerpiece. It would be a big hockey trade. 

Some team (I forget who) was dumb enough to trade a star like Jack Eichel for a bunch of picks and one roster player so these things do happen.

You're right. I saw 35 games in 2020/21 and forgot that was a 56 game season. Still, 2/3 years is scary.

I’m certainly not arguing in favour of acquiring him, just providing my take on the cost. He scares me too.
