I’ll be shocked if Cozens doesn’t immediately play better not being asked to to things he’s not meant to do. 70pt year playing with Tkachuk next season and Ottawa in the playoffs before us.

Even if Norris is better for us than Cozens is now, I don’t see how Ottawa doesn’t come out of this far ahead of us.

I have this 'feeling' that Cozens will look good for the rest of the year.  I think the trade will 'reinvigorate' him, and I think he needs that.

Also, I think when he gets there they might just tell him "go out there and just play simple hockey, shoot the puck, hit people" and that is his game.

Next year after a full year of camp, where he 'learns' the system more and they start asking him to do more (defensive coverage), that is when you might see things settle back down for him in a negative way.

That might be oversimplifying it....but the above would be my best guess for how things unfold for him. Much better play for Ottawa this year than he has played for Buffalo...and then next year and beyond are up to him deciding whether he wants to put the work in to legit change his game.

If we run a Tage - Norris 1/2 c unit the playmaking will need to come from the wings in

Its going to come from the Defense in.

Benson gets the puck to dangerous areas when no one is there to finish. Dahlin and Power both transition the puck well. Tuch is a slightly underrated playmaker.

Perhaps they mean maybe Tkachuk will teach him how to fight? Or Tkachuk will kick Cozens' ###### when he doesn't come to the aid of his teammates?

Wasn’t it Brady’s brother that ruined Cozens?

Until we win the lottery and get Misa.  That’ll bump Norris to 3C which will be good.

It wasn't really "TSN", it was one guy on the panel.  Nobody really corrected him though.  That said, I would bet we see Cozens drop the gloves early in Ottawa.

The new guy fight. Jost led the Sabres in fights the season he showed up.

Peterka - Thompson  - Kulich

Greenway - Norris - Tuch

..good? Is there a stylistic fit here?

it’s lacking playmaking. Peterka and Tuch I suppose

I don't know if I'd go THAT far to say we have a lot of guys that can create.

On the other hand, you don't always need to 'create' from the center position.  He could be someone what meshes well and finishes what Dahlin creates from the blue-line.

I think it was Hathaway who officially destroyed Cozens. But there were multiple times he's taken a shellacking.

It's weird to me that we went so quickly from:

  • 3 emerging top 6 centres (Thompson, Cozens, Mitts)
  • and maybe 4 more guys coming (Savoie, Östlund, Kulich, Krebs)

To:

  • 1 oft-injured top 6 centre (Norris)
  • and maybe 2 guys coming (Kulich, Östlund)

I hate Tage as a winger and I hate how they've moved away from him with Tuch on Line One and as the focus of the PP.

Maybe Norris can run a 2nd line, and allow us to bring back the Tuch/Thompson combo on line 1?

If Norris can stay healthy, it's a fine trade. The baked in injury history is my concern.

He's never played more than 66 games in a season. Missed almost all of 2022/23. Missed 32 games last season. Has missed 8 games this season with "upper body injury." He's had 3 surgeries on his left shoulder (YIKES).
