Thorner Posted April 9 Report Posted April 9 Anyways it’s an organization full of assess if they run it back 2
HumanSlinky39 Posted April 9 Report Posted April 9 His last 10 games in OTT: 0 Goals, 4 Assists, -4 I've watched chunks of 2 of their games in that period, the same issues we saw here a recurring there. It's looking less like a Cozens/Sabres problem and more like a Dylan Cozens problem.

dudacek Posted April 9 Report Posted April 9 1 hour ago, Thorner said: I don’t think so. It’s pretty close to 22-23 cozens considering how wonky plus minus is you arbitrarily chose the 11 game framing to begin with. 17gp 3G 7A 10P -2 Is not far from 22-23 cozens to my eye. Granted he’d need more like 13 points instead of 10. But considering sample size i see their framing as generous but not egregious I was reacting to a weekly power ranking designed to talk about current trends The Athletic: 'Ottawa seems to have traded for the 2023 version of Cozens' That Cozens put up 31 goals and 68 points. Cozens had produced at a 14-goal, 48-point pace at that point as a Senator Cozens produced at 15-goal 41-point pace this year as a Sabre Cozens was producing at a 7-goal, 35-assist pace over the previous 2-3 weeks as a Senator The Athletic statement would have held water for the first week or so of Cozens Ottawa stint, but it was not near the truth for his body of work as a whole, and it was blatantly false in terms of 'what have you done for me lately.' They weren't framing things in a different way, they were wrong.

Ya I mean 11 games doesn’t fit the weekly designator, either - you still picked the total. imo his entire tenure there falls under “current”. Sample size is still tiny I’m not saying they are “right”, just that they aren’t focusing on all of the same metrics as you. Just today i was listening to the tsn beat reporter on tv talking about how cozens has had a “transformational”‘presence as evidenced in the record. They are using a lot of the “workhorse” terminology we used to: that’s probably the “2023” they are referring to: we used to attribute a ton to the effort cozens was putting on display “future leader” etc etc. 2023 was the vibes year. They are proclaiming that “energy” is there from DC Edited April 9 by Thorner

LGR4GM Posted Thursday at 03:39 PM Report Posted Thursday at 03:39 PM Dylan Cozens sh% has regressed as predicted. He was at 25% at one point in Ottawa and has plummeted to 8.7% and his career sh% is 9.9% On 3/28/2025 at 10:15 AM, LGR4GM said: Cozens sh% in Ottawa has already started the regression. WhenWillItEnd66 Posted Thursday at 04:01 PM Report Posted Thursday at 04:01 PM Looking like a great trade for us. I think Doker for Cozens was a fair trade and we get another goal scored (ThaT is hurt alot) I am ok with that as long as he tallies 25+ goals next year 1

Maybe he can still develop? I know some on this board like that he plays a bit physical, but I just don't (yet) see him as anything other than a borderline NHL D-man. I still like the trade. For Ottawa, I saw a fan characterize the deal in a way that might be true for them (the Senators). A healthy Norris is better than Cozens, but a healthy Cozens is better than an often injured Norris. For the Sabres, I'm just glad, regardless of the return, the minutes Cozens was getting are going to other players. Kulich getting minutes in place of Cozens (with some extra minutes going to Krebs and McLeod), is just fine. My personal opinion is the Sabres are slightly better with those 3 guys getting more minute and not having Cozens take minutes away from them at all. As for Norris? I'm hopeful he is going to be a major part of this team. For the contract, he needs to be. 2
Mr Peabody Posted Thursday at 09:17 PM Report Posted Thursday at 09:17 PM (edited) I’d like to see two big physical D men brought in which would likely require Byram going out. Question: could JBD hold the fort on PP2 if Power misses time at the beginning of next season? My thinking is I’d be less afraid of that than going into next season without the 2 D men I feel we need. Edited Thursday at 09:20 PM by Mr Peabody

WhenWillItEnd66 Posted Thursday at 10:57 PM Report Posted Thursday at 10:57 PM JBD is a solid 4-6 dman. He has played good for us since he started playing. Straight forward no nonsense dman. We just need a bit better one of him for the top 4 that can clear a crease
mjd1001 Posted Thursday at 11:03 PM Report Posted Thursday at 11:03 PM (edited) So, now its the playoffs for Cozens, something he obviously never got here. He has a chance to show if he is a 'playoff' guy or not. As far as the regular season, with 20 games with Ottawa...he basically was close to the same guy he was here. With Ottawa: -20 games, 4 goals, 9 assists, -4, 8.7% shooting (82 game pace: 16 goals, 37 assists, -16) -His advanced stats slightly negative. 50 being equal: Corsi 44.0, Fenwick 44.8, Shots 46.7, Goals for/against 44.0, Scoring chances 41.6, High danger chances 43.8 Link here: https://www.naturalstattrick.com/playerteams.php?fromseason=20242025&thruseason=20242025&stype=2&sit=5v5&score=all&stdoi=oi&rate=n&team=OTT&pos=C&loc=B&toi=0&gpfilt=none&fd=&td=&tgp=410&lines=single&draftteam=ALL David Perron was Cozens linemate he spent the most time with since the trade (almost 180 minutes). Cozens brought Perrons analytics way down compared to before Cozens was there. With Cozens, Perrons Corsi went down almost 8 points, his fenwick down almost 8 points, shots for vs against down 5.5, scoring chances down 5.5, high danger chances even. Again, its no mystery that I personally wanted Cozens gone. But, again, playoffs for him. A couple well timed goals and an upset over the Leafs and he may be viewed as a different player. DarthEbriate Posted Thursday at 11:54 PM Report Posted Thursday at 11:54 PM Cool thing for Cozens is he gets to experience playoff hockey and learn how to play with a gear and intensity his previous team never gave itself the opportunity to do. He’ll be a better player for it. How much better? That’s for another few years to determine. 1
Rasmus_ Posted yesterday at 03:48 AM Report Posted yesterday at 03:48 AM (edited) My qualm is still that we gave up a player who was floundering for a player who has never played more than 65 career games in a season. Yes, theoretically if things were reversed and he were to stay healthy, there is a monumental difference in the skill level of Norris v Cozens. However, the facts are the facts, you need to be available to play on the ice to be a proper asset. As of now, this has been another Adams knee jerk reaction trade that has no broader picture. It still makes no sense and doesn't fix the fundamental flaws of this franchise. They color you with semantics, and throw skill without fixing the glue that will cement the cracks of the glaring holes. The lack of heart, effort and desire from players day in, day out. The continued stagnation under countless leaders, to not be able to work with what we have to at least put a competitive product on the ice. Edited yesterday at 03:51 AM by Rasmus_ 1 1

As you know, some guys elevate in the post season and some guys do not (most Leafs). I'm curious to see what kind of guy he really is. This will tell.

Over the course of those 2 years, we converted that asset to a third paring depth defender you can grab on waivers for free a great trade if we professionally ignore context 2
