I think the D-group, while it could be improved GREATLY from a veteran, right hand shot legit top 4 guy....has been decent. Not good, but more often than not hung out to dry by the forward play. Power seems to have taken a step back at times, but despite his contract I don't look at him as being anything special until he gets another 100+ games experience. I think its been play without the puck by Cozens and Quinn, and inconsistent play by the goaltenders that have sunk this team more than the D-men. 1 Quote
Broken Ankles Posted 9 hours ago Report Posted 9 hours ago Percent of cap over next two years is about the same as where he is today at $3.5m. So it’s like a COLA. Oft injured but moments of above average play. PK numbers are obvi…. And he is a grown ass man. Not a child. That is a plus plus in itself. Quote

They know how much a ***** show the owner has created If Zucker joins Greenway and resigns, it will be a good sign, imo. Zucker will be pursued by contenders. Quote

Need the Vet presence and the rugged defensive minded play the real works needs to be done on the D-corps I like the good Greenway. And I am OK with the signing given the teams needs and reputation. But we’ve seen the good version what, 60 games over 2 years? It’s an expensive price for a player who hasn’t been very reliable. The Sabres problems are very much the forwards - specifically the fact that 1st-line winger JJ Peterka doesn’t provide 1st-line level 2-way play and 2nd-liners Jack Quinn and Dylan Cozens have been outright bad at their jobs. Neither Kulich nor Benson are anywhere near top 6 worthy as the final top 6 piece. So yeah, I’m content with Greenway as a 3rd-liner with McLeod, just like I’m content with Thompson and Tuch in the top six. The rest of the top 9 needs a drastic upgrade. Jorcus Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago 3 hours ago, LGR4GM said: Or he's from NY and likes it here? Sure Caton isn't close but Buffalo is a lot similar to his home than NYC. We can only speculate about Why Greenway chose to resign here but comparing Canton to Buffalo to New York City. Is like comparing an Apple to an Orange to a Coconut. I have lived in all three places and they are wildly different. Canton is a remote college town where the nearest place of interest is another remote college town. I am not knocking it, two of the best years of my life were spent there but it is a harsh place to live. Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto are all closer in distance than Buffalo if it's about family matters. Not that he could depend on those offers but we just don't know the why unless he tells us. As far as his play I am also of the mind that he is very inconsistent. Some games he seems to make a big difference and others he drifts. One negative I think I see is that he has to skate short shifts. I don't know if it's related to his injury but if he gets hung out on the ice he skates very slow and upright. You can almost always tell when he is out of gas. I guess the big fear is the good aggressive play he has shown this year was to get the next contract and that he might not put forth the same effort next year. On the other hand he should be in his prime years so maybe it all works out. Quote
Bangarang Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago It's going to be hilarious when we run the same squad back next year and Adams gives us more BS about how he's confident in the guys we have. 1 1 Quote
HumanSlinky39 Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago I like the extension. Greenway brings an element this team sorely lacks, is usually pretty noticeable when he's out there...and in a good way. The risk is that he seems to be hurt pretty frequently, but it's not a bank breaking contract, so not overly concerned. We need more players like him. 1 Quote

GoPuckYourself Posted 7 hours ago Report Posted 7 hours ago Finally we keep some toughness and physicality at a good price and not for 7 years 😀 Now let's deal some of these guys who don't really have a future here like Jokiharju, Krebs, Lafferty, NAK. If Zucker doesn't want to re-sign then ship him off and I'm hoping they deal Byram as well because he isn't very good. I thought he was worth signing at 1 point but he is very average to me but that's what we get for hoping these young guys can be cornerstones with a garbage defensive coach and no defensive defensemen covering up for them. Perfect example of a bottom 6 forward and a valuable veteran in a room of kids. Stable when he’s on the ice I guess. He’s averaged only 55 games per 82 last 3 seasons Quote

Nope the only thing that matters when it comes to forwards is sick snipes at 5 V 5. That’s why we are in 29th Quote

FrenchConnection44 Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago Very happy with this signing for what it is. He’s not going to transform the organization but we need a player like him. He’s had some really good runs on penalty kill and has good games when healthy. I’d like to get Zucker on a deal as well. But I’d also be good with trading Cozens at some point — maybe not til after the season — as well as an few others (Samuelsson, Power) and try to find a tough guy at fwd and a defensive oriented rugged defenseman. Yes, if that actually happens. Funny things happen once people leave, though. Quote
