If I'm Jason Zucker, there's no way I'd actually want to stay in Buffalo and I'd be shocked if he's on the team next year. Not trading him would be a whiff by Adams. Quote

Is like comparing an Apple to an Orange to a Coconut. I have lived in all three places and they are wildly different. Canton is a remote college town where the nearest place of interest is another remote college town. I am not knocking it, two of the best years of my life were spent there but it is a harsh place to live. Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto are all closer in distance than Buffalo if it's about family matters. Not that he could depend on those offers but we just don't know the why unless he tells us. As far as his play I am also of the mind that he is very inconsistent. Some games he seems to make a big difference and others he drifts. One negative I think I see is that he has to skate short shifts. I don't know if it's related to his injury but if he gets hung out on the ice he skates very slow and upright. You can almost always tell when he is out of gas. I guess the big fear is the good aggressive play he has shown this year was to get the next contract and that he might not put forth the same effort next year. On the other hand he should be in his prime years so maybe it all works out. The length and size is also hugely beneficial on the PK. Not going to blow anyone away on the stat sheet, but he's got some heart which this team is mostly lacking so i don't have any issue bringing him back. From a physical standpoint, he's pretty much the closest thing the team has to an enforcer. Quote
WhenWillItEnd66 Posted Thursday at 03:36 PM Report Posted Thursday at 03:36 PM Like the signing. We are better with him, but need more pieces like him!!! Quote

PotentPowerPlay21 Posted Thursday at 07:30 PM Report Posted Thursday at 07:30 PM Are the Sabres going to lock up everybody to contracts who are on the current roster? It seems to me that if you have a team that is last in the conference you might not want to keep the same roster. Keep doing the same thing and expecting different results doesn't seem logical. Every couple of weeks Greenway has a good game. Kevyn Adams figured that was a bargain at $4 million per year. Rinse and repeat. Quote

We’re talking about a guy who was off playing hockey in Ann Arbor by the time he’s 15 or 16. Quote

No. Someone who makes a difference with his physical play? Absolutely. He adds to the 5x5 as well. If Greenway could put up 15-20 goals and close to 40 points a season I'd be happy. See Mike Peca with a touch of Matt Barnaby. Yet I can't see him ever being that good. Quote
dudacek Posted Friday at 04:54 AM Report Posted Friday at 04:54 AM Greenway playing like a bag of feces against the Sharks knowing he’s about to sign a big deal, then going down with an injury the day after he signs it would be very on brand Sabres. Quote

Turns out he has what Quinn had; some sort of severe stomach illness. Quote
Thorner Posted Friday at 12:38 PM Report Posted Friday at 12:38 PM (edited) It’s not even bad luck. He’s often hurt. Sure the term and $ don’t sting but it’s not really about that: it’s about if rostering him prevents us from rostering someone better in the name of winning. The bar lowers when he plays only 50-60 games a season Edited Friday at 12:40 PM by Thorner Quote

The bar lowers when he plays only 50-60 games a season I agree. Its not about is Greenway a better player than an alternative. Its about how available he is. For example, lets say you have a choice of Greenway or someone else, and you pick Greenway because he is a slightly better player. But Greenway likely misses 20-30 games, the other guy would play most of the season (all of this on average). Well, when Greenway is hurt you end up filling a roster spot with someone from the bottom of the roster. What is better? Greenway for 60% of the season and a bottom of the roster guy for 40% of the season? Or someone who is possibly slightly worse than Greenway but a lot better than that bottom of the roster guy for 90%+ of the season? I might take the 2nd. 1 Quote
quill Posted Friday at 06:17 PM Report Posted Friday at 06:17 PM I'm glad the Sabres are investing in Greenway. It's so hard to find players his size who can actually skate, can be physical, and play smart hockey with the puck. Watching him play on this team, yes he's not some super fast skater or elite puck handler, but I've noticed when he does get the puck he usually makes smart passes and he rarely gives the puck away like so many of our more talented skaters do all too often. I think he'll grow into an even more valuable asset for us if this team can soon become a playoff caliber team. From what the other players have said about him in past interviews, it seems he is a well liked teammate. Quote
Sabres Fan in NS Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago This is a good deal for both, especially if he can stay healthy. Quote
