"The Goal"

After watching OT goal, you are struck by a couple of things:

 

1. Why don't more people try that? Probably cause it shouldn't work.

 

2. Did somebody superglue Emery's feet to the ice? That was the slowest response of a goal tender I have ever seen. Come on now, what was he thinking that stick in his hand was for?

 

3. We should get double credit. That was not only short handed but it was 1 on 3 and he beat all three of them.

After watching OT goal, you are struck by a couple of things:

 

1. Why don't more people try that? Probably cause it shouldn't work.

More people don't try it because most times you'd end up like Timmy Connelly, looking up at the rafters trying to figure out why your mouth tastes like iron. Thankfully it was a forward on his hip and Wayne Redden on the weakside instead of two nasty physical NHL defensemen, or we'd be lamenting the loss of Pominville for the rest of the playoffs.

 

2. Did somebody superglue Emery's feet to the ice? That was the slowest response of a goal tender I have ever seen. Come on now, what was he thinking that stick in his hand was for?

Emery's lateral movement is very pedestrian. He's shown that numerous times throughout the playoffs. He's also pretty weak at reading the play - kind of the anti-Ryan Miller.
