That was a great hockey game. Binnington showed he's a money goalie after all. Stuck it to Boston in the Stanley Cup finals and stuck it to their fans again tonight.

Marchand piggybacking Konecny really did make me laugh. That might be the biggest international win for Canada since '72. I hope we see this again.

1987? 2010?
maybe cause of the political environment you might be right.
shame the USA has become the new Soviet Union for us

The USSR was once a threat to Canadian hockey dominance and now today the USA  is. There is no shame in that.

If you are talking about politics then please stop and move it to the correct forum.

Man the NHL games are probbaly gonna be a letdown after this. But for real next year, we need a team Russia.

F politics, every world leader is a complete $hithead, not one single one of the lot got there by being honest and kind. So let's separate that from the sport please and actually see the world's best.

Most of Canada viewed this as a battle of good vs. evil there's no denying that.

Imagine leaving the world’s best player alone to score the OT winner? Oh wait, it happened in 2010 too! 😂

Never been happier to see Canada win! Absolutely perfect.

Sure.

Only, in 2010, Crosby would not have been open if the ref didn’t kick the puck right to his stick.

And I really don’t care. It was awesome hockey to watch. The nationalism does nothing for me. Especially in our current climate. It would have been nice if the US had won, but I just want the Sabres to be good and I just don’t see that happening any time soon and that bums me out.

I did. As a Canadian Sabres fan, I couldn't have liked it better.

I did, too. That’s why it’s hard for me to say.

Not sure how much better that tournament could have been.

Grumpy old man rant. To superimpose Herb Brooks speech over the American NHL all-stars was just so wrong. "Miracle" happened during the cold war, when we were the good guys, the kids were amateurs and a miracle did happen. That was just lazy and wrong on so many levels.

There are AHL players with more cups than McDavid. Your point?

You can't figure out the point?

Having Eichel on a team isn't such a bad thing if your goal is to win the Cup.

I think Mitch Marner should have been the pick instead of John in 2015.  Our long lost friend Yuri was right all those years ago.

He made beauty passes on the two most important goals for Canada.  Probably others - he is quietly on my top 5 player list in the NHL.

Our Prime Minister summed it up nicely on Twitter.  He has 2 weeks left in the job so he has nothing to lose.

I think the only option is to go to 6 teams with Russia and a World Team made up of players from Czech, Slovakia, Germany, Austria etc. You can’t have a tournament in mid season with anymore teams or you are pushing it.

A hard no to drafting Marner instead of Jack. We took the second best player in that draft. And at least for me, that rating of players was clearly right. The Jack saga was really about an indictment of a failed organization than it was about the disgruntlement of a particular player. And I'm not diminishing Marner's talents. He's a terrific player. I would love to have him. The problem is that he would not allow himself to be exiled to this imprisoning franchise.

Maybe Toronto brass should look at the final goal and really ask themselves is Matthews a winner? Perfect time to move him. Marner showed up, AM wasn’t hardly noticeable until the winner.

His sister, who skates just as well, was a non factor. I think McAvoy would have had more of an impact.

Sister?

come on people. It’s 2025. Is this supposed to be an insult? Insult the guy by saying he played like garbage. But the posting “sister” to suggest girls are inferior, is just weak.

I roll my eyes at the pearl clutching but do agree with the hockey point in regards to Jack Hughes being the invisible man 95% of the time.

Sorry if I offended you, I just wanted to state that the Hughes gang is more suited to skills competitions.

They needed more Larkins and Slavins.

Someone pointed out that McDavid was relatively held in check while Eichel was playing against him. When they switched to Matthews he lost coverage which resulted in the game winner.

I went to watch Steve Dangle’s take on this game just to see how his passion for hockey translates to a best on best tournament. I usually go to his page after the Leafs annual exit just to laugh at his MELTDOWNS.

His 20 minutes touched on a lot of similar things to what we all watched but he couldn’t shed the blue Leafs goggles. He talked about Matthews and Marner for about 5 minutes of this video. “Matthews was a demon!”

I was very impressed with Slavin. I think hockey is starting to shift away from every dman has to be a puck moving dman that can run a PP and more towards solid defensive dmen that can impact the defensive zone.

It's hard for me to believe that people can watch that game and be blind to the current political climate that hung over that game   Did you cover your ears during the postgame interviews of the Canadian coaches / players?
Let's be honest, politics made that game the spectacle it was and why someone here said that it was most important hockey victory for Canada since we beat the soviets in 72.
