McDavid might have jaw dropping speed that prime Crosby never had, but IMO that's it. Crosby's hockey IQ and compete level is orders better than McDavid. In fact, I'd go so far to say McDavid has just above average IQ at best... He just makes up for it with athletism. Crosby has all-time level IQ. When everybody on the ice is so good that you can't win on athletism alone (McDavid/MacKinnon), 87's intangibles lock him in as the #1 player in the world since Lemieux. The only thing I ever had against Sid is that he never played for the Sabres. The guy is a beast on the puck, seems to pass THROUGH actual people, and can score a top shelf goal on a one-handed back hand flip (which unfortunately happened against Buffalo). He is the epitome of "makes others around him better". Signs team friendly deals because he wants more cups. And his edge work redefined hockey skating. Any hate against Sid is misplaced. 2 Quote

ROR, Eichel, Reinhart, etc., did not curse their new teams. They won Cups. We have enough Sabres reality to complain about without making up new things. Yes, but Joki is still a Sabre. Quote

Ducky Posted February 15 Report Posted February 15 (edited) I was at the Canes game on the 4th and the better half asked me if I was going to boo the American anthem. I said no. She said, I thought you hated Trump? I said I hate trump, not the country. It's classless if you ask me. For the record, Canadians aren't just pissed at him just for the 51st state comment. We're also pissed off that he said he wants Greenland and the Panama canal and his comments on the Gaza strip, or how he put it, it could be the "Riviera of the Middle East". I don't think Canada has the goaltending to win and there have been some strange roster choices including not having Thompson playing goal. He's lost only twice during regulation and has a .921 sv% and Montembault is on the team??? Doughty is just back from a serious injury and you play him over Sanheim??? He shouldn't even be on the team! Don't even start about Scheif not being on the team although I am happy he is resting. The States are the team to beat and Finland really couldn't do much once they started to pour it on. Nice to see Helle have a good game but Connor wasn't that noticeable at all. Their backup goalies are better than the Canadian starters. On a side note, do the Habs buy Laine out of his contract this summer or trade him at the TDL? He's horrible and I can't see MSL putting up with his play much longer. What a waste. Another side note, about how much is a ticket in the nosebleeds between the bluelines at a Sabres' game? TIA May the best team win tonight and let's hope the refs call a fair game. Edited February 15 by Ducky 1 Quote

Also at this point, you should boo. 1 Quote
Scottysabres Posted February 15 Report Posted February 15 Meh, boo don’t boo, I’m n it for the hockey. Any information and/or play analysis on any Sabres assets that are in the tournament is greatly appreciated. Quote

Dahlin was Sweden’s best player for much of the game, then inexplicably sat for the whole overtime. Joker played ok with a goal and hopefully boosts his trade value with eyes on him. UPL was the backup, but probably won’t get to play. 1 Quote

He wasn’t Sweden’s best player, but he was very good. He also tried a couple of his usual nonchalant moves and got beat, but it didn’t cost them because of the level of his linemates. Which is most likely why he sat in OT. That’s how I saw it, anyway. Looking forward to today’s games. 1 Quote

pastajoe Posted February 15 Report Posted February 15 I have a hard time rooting for a team with Eichel, Matthews, and the Tkachuks. Likewise I can’t root for a team with Marchand, Reinhart, and McDavid. So I’m hoping for a miracle that somehow Dahlin and Sweden find a way to win. Quote

IMO Dahlin should be where Karlsson is. 3 Quote

Karlsson is not the player he once was and is a defensive liability, but played in OT and allowed Marner a clear shor. 1 Quote

I mean they are hitting everything that moves and scoring (I was a huge fan of their father growing up also). I know I'm probably in a minority but it's been a blast to watch for me. 2 Quote

GoPuckYourself Posted February 15 Report Posted February 15 great... Dahlin probably week to week after that block. Quote
DarthEbriate Posted February 15 Report Posted February 15 Dahlin gets injured on the left arm/side blocking a shot at the end of a good shift.... grumble, grumble. Quote
DarthEbriate Posted February 15 Report Posted February 15 (edited) Dahlin back on the ice. Gets a + as Zibanejad bounces one through Lankinen. Then, Dahlin gets caught pinching and leads to a 2-on-1 Finland goal. Edited February 15 by DarthEbriate Quote
