Never discount Canadian pride especially with all the ***** Trump is threatening.

I wouldn't doubt the Canadian players feel a greater sense of nationalism due to the stature hockey has in their culture vs the US.

But... I'd be VERY surprised if Donald Trump's tariff threats are a factor at all to most if not all of them.

Sabres' best player got 17:15 of ice time in a 74 minute game.  Zero pp or pk time.  Pretty Much the same as Brodin who had a goal and a higher +/-. The Swedish roster carries 7 defensemen.  It looks like the Sabres' "Superstar" is the most likely be a healthy scratch, when Andersson comes in.  Put that in perspective.  Our best offensive player seems not to even have gotten a sniff of the USA roster.  As per the broadcast last night, it seems UPL will probably not see the ice.

You'll never guess how many players from the best team in the league based on point percentage are participating in this tournament...

When you say “them,” you may be referring to the players.  Flash is talking about everyday Canadians going to NHL games and they are booing the American national anthem in Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, and Ottawa. This is directly attributed to the political climate.

Not that your point is relevant to the above.  The current Stanley Cup Champions have 8 players in the tournament.  The current points percentage leader (whatever that has done) haven't won **** yet.

And are also shut out due to not having Russia as one of the 4.

The players care because their friends and family members are affected. And it’s not just the tariffs it’s the threats of making Canada the 51st State. Canadians think he is insane enough to invade.

And how many Russians are on the Sabres, that would make the tournament roster?  For that matter Czechs (the country with the next highest amount of NHL players)

Original Point:  If our best players are not good enough nor perceived good enough to make or play significant time on these rosters, then how good are these players.  They are certainly not bringing any Stanley Cup (or even winning) pedigree. More of an indictment on the front office. More fuel for the fire.

It's got nothing to do with Trump. Canada has dominated my whole life.

I think there is a subtle difference between "Trump" and "the threats"

I don't think the booing has much to do with Trump simply being president.  A good portion of Canada (half? maybe, I don't know) might vote for him if they had him as an option.  It is more  ANYONE or ANY country that talks your country down, attacks your leadership (even if YOU don't like your leadership, its ok for you to pick on them but not an oursider to pick on them) or certainly anyone talking/threatening/suggesting that you give up your status as an independant nation....there is going to be outrage against that.

Whether its Trump, or if Biden said it, or Macron, Olaf Sholz or Putin.....ally or not....Anyone that says those things is going to elicit a booing response.

Game 1 of an All Star team, the coaches are figuring it out.  Listening to Hamilton and Marty I get the opposite feel on Dahlin.  He played well but they played him on the 3rd pair.

They played Karlsson more and he was the cause for 2 goals, including the game winner.  Karlsson is a poor defensive defenseman and they paid for that decision.

I don't think you can use the information you had to justify anything. It was the call of the Swedish coaching staff. Meh. They were wrong. Brodin also completely overplayed the 2 on 1 to allow Marchand to literally tap the puck into the net.

Dahlin should have been on the ice more than he was. The fact that he was not is not because he's bad but because I am sure the coach is enamored with his Swedish defensive "heroes".  It matters not to me.

What I know is Sweden didn't win.

I only caught the first period and I though both Karlsson and Hedman sucked; a train wreck of a D pairing. Did that continue the rest of the game?

I have a much different take.

Most of the players on the Sabres are still not at their peak potential, or even close to it (Cozens, Peterka, Powers, Byram, Benson, Kulich).  How many players do you think should be on these rosters from the youngest team in the league?  IMO Tage, Dahlin, and UPL should be, with the latter making it due to a smaller pool of goalies for the Swedes to pick from.  That is 3 players. Joker got lucky and I hope he looks amazing so some desparate GM can overpay for him in a trade.  That is 4 this year, and only 3 were actually selected.

An optimist might say a couple years from now the Sabres could have 6-8 players that SHOULD be selected in a series like this.  I'm not that optimist, but I'd like to be...

Agreed.  I thought He played well.  It was just on game.  The coaching staff of Sweden disagreed in an important close game.  Dahlin could have also peeled off his man to get to the scorer or in front of the shot on the third goal.  Players make decisions Brodin's was bad and Dahlin's resulted in a goal also.  Point was if Andersson plays next game, who's coming out?  Probably not one of the "heroes".

So peel off Mackinnon to cover a guy the Forwards are supposed to cover?

I don’t think you have a clue what you’re talking about if you think half of Canada would vote for Trump. Sure if those other leaders said the stuff Trump did Canadians would be upset but those other leaders never were stupid enough to say the stuff that comes out of Trump’s mouth.

Overall Sweden got better as the game went on and they forced an OT.  I didn’t see it but Hamilton implied that Karlsson was a liability on defense.

I can go with the thought that Forsling is the best of that bunch right now, he is 28 and in his prime, Dahlin is still only 24.  I would not trade Dahlin for any of the Swede defensemen straight up.

Don't have a clue? First of all, I said, half with a question mark and then added maybe.  2nd, I may not know the numbers, but Canada seems to be shifting MUCH farther to the right than it has been in the past.

How about reading my post before you come at me with "dont' think you have a clue" to see that I OBVIOUSLY put something in there saying I didn't know the exact numbers...but again, the country has moved to the right.

You can disagree with me, but how about with a little class and decorum?

You people on this board...first reaction for many of you is "don't have a clue" or "dont' know what you are talking about". Grow up with that stuff already.

Why don’t you take your own advice and read what I said. Key word was “if” you think.

And I love that you feel the need to tell me about my country.
