LGR4GM Posted February 10 Report Posted February 10 (edited) https://popular.info/p/the-nsas-big-delete "Although the websites and other content are purportedly being deleted to comply with President Trump's executive orders targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion, or "DEI," the dragnet is taking down "mission-related" work." "According to the NSA source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media, the process is "very chaotic," but is plowing ahead anyway. A memo distributed by NSA leadership to its staff says that on February 10, all NSA websites and internal network pages that contain banned words will be deleted." There's 27 banned words including bias, inclusion, privilege, and equality. Edited Tuesday at 03:31 PM by LGR4GM
K-9 Posted February 11 Report Posted February 11 Thinkpol: a newspeak word to describe the secret police of Oceania, who are responsible for the detection, prosecution, and elimination of unspoken beliefs and doubts that contradict the Party. They use audio-visual surveillance via the telescreens and offender profiling to monitor the populace. George was so prescient.

Not sure how an allegory warning about a totalitarian society and written not long after after similar real life events occurred gave people bad ideas. Maybe people need to read it again. Before it’s banned because of the clear warnings it offers about today’s political atmosphere that is.

The first time I watched it I was disgusted beyond belief because it outlines how sexual predators groom children. It was effective. However, imagine someone who might not be sure how to go about it but was interested? It also read like a guidebook on how to groom children. I am saying 1984 might have put ideas into people's head about how bad government can be while also giving people ideas about how to make a bad government if they were so inclined. That is all. As I said, either way it doesn't matter. The actions that sparked this thread are disgusting.

I get the concern how sometimes information meant to inform of dangers may very well serve as advice for evil doers. As for 1984, nothing put forth by Orwell in his novel was anything new in terms of ideas for how to make a bad government. Those ideas have existed since we first thought it wise as a species to formulate governmental structures. The best ideas for how to form a government are what created ours with the central tenet being the “of, by, and for the people” and it has been under attack since our inception, but we have always weathered those threats. While I agree that “both sides” have had occasion to muck it up at times, both sides always put country before party in the past. But that isn’t the case currently. There is only one side creating a Constitutional crisis at the moment, only one side has issued a manifesto for how to destroy our institutions, and only one side is so willing to see our representative republic form of democracy trashed. Only one side is a clear and present danger and the “both sides do it” argument just doesn’t apply here.

Where we differ on this... my entire viewpoint on this is that there is no party in no meaningful way. It's like the good cop, bad cop routine. They are both cops. They are both working towards a goal and they do so by playing the prisoner from both angles. That's my take on being a citizen of this country. They use each other to distract away from the real changes that continue to occur, under our noses, enacted by "anonymous" forces. As cheeky as it sounds, the line in Iron Man 3 has a lot of merit. Anonymity is the real key. When you give evil a face you give people some to concentrate on. The real players are behind the scenes. That's my problem when each time i hear people justifying "their side" by saying the "other side" isn't as bad, or at least we're not doing this, etc. You're in the forest, you just don't know it.
LGR4GM Posted February 11 Author Report Posted February 11 This is not NSA related but here is a perfect example of the wanton hatred spewing from the Trump administration and the censorship they are exercising and the NSA and other places. Below is a link that is now dead because the Trump administration believes in censorship. They believe that the first amendment applies to them but not others. They removed a page that was to help prevent suicide in basically everyone except for straight white people and they did it because they are maliciously targeting "the others" and "the others" are anyone that isn't like them. When you start removing pages that helped protect children from harm you aren't a free an open democratic society anymore. Every single document in the samhsa library that had the word "underserved" is now gone. https://library.samhsa.gov/page-not-found Suicide Prevention Strategies for Underserved Youth This resource highlights the risk factors for suicide affecting young adults of underserved racial and ethnic groups and the LGBTQIA+ community and provides strategies and resources for implementing evidence-based suicide prevention and intervention programs to better support these student populations. LGR4GM Posted Tuesday at 03:30 PM Author Report Posted Tuesday at 03:30 PM Quote But one group you may not hear from are those inside the federal system. You have not heard from us because we are terrified of the response—not just having our research cancelled and being summarily dismissed, but also set upon by the 250 million followers of Elon Musk on X. Our homes, salaries, families, and even our lives are at risk. I am a researcher within the federal system, and I hope that you will forgive me and understand why I am publishing this piece anonymously. The very fact that I am having to publish this anonymously in a country that has the right to free speech written into our Constitution is an indictment of what is happening. Like all federal employees in the US, I took an oath to the Constitution, not to a president or political party. I should be able to speak out without fear, but the judicial system is slow to react, appears overwhelmed with more important complaints than from one scientist, and perhaps has been compromised. I never thought that in the US we would come to fear the knock on the door as so many have feared in unfree countries. The fear of speaking about this to friends and close colleagues because we do not know who believes what. Free speech and the rule of law have been central to what the US stands for and what it has achieved, but both now are being eroded.
K-9 Posted Tuesday at 04:55 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 04:55 PM 1 hour ago, LGR4GM said: The ultra rich have been trying to undo the New Deal since FDR signed it into law. They spent years during the booming economies and the rise of the middle class that New Deal programs helped spawn plotting how to accomplish that. They needed to divide and conquer the electorate that benefits from these programs and that meant control over the media, from the air waves to the presses. The first step in that was the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine and media ownership laws in the 80s, but the advent of social media put them over the top in their efforts as the very oligarchs who know nothing of patriotism and loyalty to the Constitution own those outlets and what dis and mis information flows thru them. They’ve accomplished their goal of convincing the masses that our government, the government OF, BY, and FOR THE PEOPLE, is the enemy. This is the darkest moment in our history as a democracy. Shame on us. 1
