Can you explain why it complicates a buyout?  I can’t find anything stating an injured player cannot be bought out.

I googled “can an injured NHL player be bought out?” and everything that comes up says no, unless the player gives permission.

I think if a player fails his end of the year physical, they cannot be bought out per the CBA as you cannot buy out an injured player.

The next time he would have a scheduled physical would be in September.

One of the CBA experts can maybe weigh in.

It’s probably a moot point either way

@Brawndo If this is really Adams attitude toward his players, then Aaron is right; this team is really cooked with Adams in charge.

Take these leaks with a grain of salt. Reporters get their scoops from agents and GMs for a reason. Considering the pressure on Adams and the Sabres, what other GMs call "being in love with your players" might actually be holding out for a realistic offer. Who wouldn't try to fleece us, then get mad when Adams won't budge?

Is he really hurt or just butthurt?

I vote they give Zach Metsa a spin.

I’d rather give Novikov a taste.

Nick Kypreos is reporting that Samuelsson is done for the year.

That would complicate any potential buyout

No where in this article does it say he is out for the season. Here is the blurb on Muel:

“Byram isn't the only Sabres defenceman out there. Mattias Samuelsson, who missed Tuesday's game, is as well. He is signed at a $4.285 million deal through 2029-30.

The Sabres have a lot on the table to consider, but the feeling is that if they could move Samuelsson, they could turn around and re-sign Byram instead of trading him. It might be a one or the other situation.”

It must have been edited as I was not the only only who saw this

Adams is a soft lumpy squishy middle aged dad who can't handle the rigors of telling some of his kids to pack their ***** and get out. He's not a gm, he's everyone's buddy and that simply doesn't work.

Fleece us? For Samuelsson? Hell, I'm hovering close to "future considerations" right for a guy who is literally only available 50% of the time. I think Buffalo should give Novikov a game in Muels place and see how much better that goes.

So... the writer of this just wrote a thing. I don't trust it as being accurate.

That said, if he's healthy before the end of the season, trade or bench. I wouldn't jeopardize the buyout.

Yep. Let him, and the team, determine where his development stands.

Normally a good thing to do, but this is the Sabres.   The danger is he flashes in a few games and then Adams thinks they have someone who is ready.  Adams goes into his "no blockers" mode and they don't add what the really need in the off season, and inevitably when he gets extended work they find he is not ready yet.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Looks like they went back and edited it out. They changed “out for the season” to “missed Tuesday’s game”

If true, that stinks for Samuelsson. The only breaks the kid can buy are his own bones.

Also if true, LTIR!, weaponize that cap space to... hahahahhahahahaa

Also also if if true true, the Sabres have 2 home games out of the break where they can control matchups. Those would be my Novikov test flight to give him a taste of the game and speed. Then, send him back down to continue getting top minutes and bring up Johnson to be the D-zone specialist that is his game in ROC.

  • Brawndo changed the title to Report:Mattias Samuelsson not out for the year
